THE POSITION

As a Maintenance Repairman 2 with the Department of Transportation, you will play an important part in maintaining the facilities and tools that keep Montgomery County running smoothly. This position offers steady, meaningful work that uses your mechanical, repair, and problem-solving abilities. Your efforts support both office and field staff by ensuring equipment and properties stay safe and functional. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position carries out skilled and semi-skilled repair and maintenance tasks that support buildings, machinery, equipment, and work sites throughout Montgomery County. The role contributes to safe, well-maintained facilities and provides important assistance to both garage and field crews. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain and repair buildings, stockpiles, electrical systems, plumbing systems, HVAC units, and fire safety equipment
  • Equipment Repair: Fix machinery, small engines, tools, and vehicles while recording maintenance details
  • Worksite Support: Assist field crews by delivering fuel, gathering parts, mowing lawns, removing snow, and performing manual labor tasks
  • Tool Operation: Operate loaders, forklifts, man lifts, and a variety of motorized and non motorized hand tools
  • Safety Monitoring: Inspect fire extinguishers, track safety supplies, and follow procedures that keep work areas secure
  • General Upkeep: Clean offices, garages, and grounds, paint surfaces, make building forms, and assist in storeroom operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's license.
