Job Summary/Basic Function
The Music Department is looking for degree peer mentors. Two for each degree program:
  • Music Education
  • Music Industry
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music

Required Qualifications
MUST be a music major
  • Sufficient knowledge of musical terms to proficiently educate music students
  • Able to teach the fundamentals of the art of music
  • Critical thinking skills associated with reading and writing music
  • Must be able to work independently and self-driven
  • Must be punctual, dependable and trustworthy
  • Performance experience with a variety of instruments
  • Knowledgeable of all majors, class requirements, and the program in general
  • Ability to mentor as a positive role model
  • Must complete 3 required clearances (PA Criminal Background, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints).

FALL RESPPONSIBILITES
  • Follow UNIV 130 Syllabus and schedule meeting with first year students to supplement class instruction
  • Focus on the following topics from a student perspective
    • Weekly schedule
    • How to use/Features of D2L
    • 8-Smester Plan
    • Juries
    • Advisement meetings
    • Registration
  • Provide one-on-one help in these areas to students as needed

SPRING RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Continue encouraging the application of time management and organizational techniques taught in the Fall
  • Focus of the following topics from a student perspective
    • Review Fall materials
    • Practicing
    • Resumes and Cover Letters
    • Solfege
    • Registration
  • Provide one-on-one help in these areas to students as needed

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* Be able to sit and use a computer for the length of shift
* Be able to lift packages at most 10lbs
* Be able to walk for a length of shift
