Overview:
The Senior Military Analyst/Instructor - Academics (SMA-A) provides comprehensive management and technical support to the NEXWDC Program Manager, serving as one of three functional leaders. This role oversees contract performance for advanced expeditionary warfighting courses, the Expeditionary Warfare Tactics Instructor (ExWTI) program, staff planning instruction, student assessment, and curriculum development. The SMA-A leads the Curriculum Research, Maintenance, and Development Instructor Cadre and the Course Supervisor-Instructional System Design.


Place of Performance:
Navy Expeditionary Warfighting Development Center (NEXWDC), Virginia Beach, VA


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site management oversight for task-focused performance
  • Exercise broad discretion to allocate resources within assigned cadres to meet NEXWDC’s near- and long-term objectives
  • Co-manage Military Analyst/Instructors (MA/Is) alongside the SMA-Exercises, Operational Logistics Instructor/Planner (Ops Log I/P), Intelligence Planner/Instructor (Intel P/I), and Expeditionary Information Warfare Instructor (Ex IW/Intel)
  • Support N7 and N2 with the development, maintenance, and instruction of courses, including:
    • Operational Planning Team (OPT) Leader Course
    • Commander’s Course
    • Watch Officer/Chief Course
    • Staff Estimates
    • Expeditionary Warfare Tactics Instructor (ExWTI) program
    • Expeditionary Information Warfare Team Trainer (Ex-IWTT) course
  • Establish effective communication with supported departments
  • Maximize contractor workforce responsiveness to evolving needs and minimize risks of schedule disruptions or government oversight
Requirements:

Military/Navy Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in program management, military operations, operational support, planning, coordination, training, and technical analysis
  • O5/O6-level US military experience, including:
    • Unit-level leadership (battalion, squadron, ship, etc.)
    • Operational staff experience at Group, Task Force, Joint, or coalition/combined levels
    • Command and Control Operations
    • Participation in real-world operations and relevant Fleet, USMC, Joint, and/or coalition/combined operations

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Expertise in educational and training programs, general administrative procedures, and training management principles
  • Experience in military training, instructional design, curriculum development, and educational evaluation
  • Familiarity with Navy live, virtual, constructive, and simulation training at operational and tactical levels
  • Background in Expeditionary Warfare, including areas such as:
    • Naval Construction, Navy Expeditionary Logistics, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Coastal Riverine, Navy Expeditionary Intelligence, Amphibious Operations, Combat Service Support, Expeditionary Mine Countermeasures (MCM), and Force Protection (FP)
  • Thorough understanding of military decision-making processes, including:
    • Navy Planning Process (NPP)
    • Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP)
    • Joint Operational Planning Process (JOPP)

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required

Security Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
