Job Description

The HHS Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy is a16-week DoD SkillBridge programdesigned to prepare transitioning service members for leadership careers in healthcare Environmental Services (EVS).
This program provides military leaders with hands-on experience, structured leadership development, mentorship, and exposure to hospital EVS operations. Participants will apply the leadership, operational, and people-management skills developed through military service while learning how to lead in a civilian healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

Must be a current member of the United States Military within 180 days of separation. This is a non-paid program. The goal of the Academy is toidentify, develop, and evaluate military talent for potential placement into HHS EVS Assistant Director or Director-level opportunities upon successful completion of the program.

Successful completion of the Academy does not guarantee employment or a specific position. Placement will be based on the participant's performance, leadership capabilities, available opportunities, business needs, and successful completion of the HHS hiring process.

Responsibilities
  • Learn and apply the fundamentals of hospital Environmental Services operations
  • Provide leadership that supports a team environment built on morale, accountability, quality, and respect
  • Work alongside EVS leadership and team members in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Develop skills in recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, and team development
  • Participate in daily inspections, assessments, rounding, and quality-control activities
  • Support initiatives designed to improve patient and customer satisfaction
  • Learn and apply healthcare safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards
  • Analyze operational data and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Gain exposure to staffing, scheduling, productivity, labor management, and budgeting
  • Learn how to establish, maintain, and monitor quality-control systems
  • Collaborate with department, facility, and HHS leadership to achieve operational goals
  • Develop the ability to identify problems, make sound decisions, and implement effective solutions
  • Participate in leadership meetings, audits, operational planning, and performance reviews
  • Complete a leadership development project focused on improving EVS operations
  • Receive ongoing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback from HHS leaders
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate military leadership experience into civilian healthcare operations
Requirements
  • Must be an eligible U.S. military service member approved to participate in theDoD SkillBridge Program
  • Must have command approval to participate in the HHS Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy
  • Must be able to commit to the full 16-week program
  • Must be willing to work onsite within an HHS healthcare facility
  • Must demonstrate leadership experience gained through military service, professional experience, or both
  • Must possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing to learn healthcare Environmental Services operations
  • Must be willing to receive coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback
  • Must be willing to relocate for future HHS leadership opportunities when applicable
Preferred Qualifications

  • Military leadership experience
  • Experience supervising personnel
  • Experience managing teams or complex operations
  • Experience with logistics, facilities, maintenance, supply chain, or healthcare
  • Experience with training and development
  • Experience with safety, compliance, or quality programs
  • Experience managing resources, budgets, or equipment
  • Healthcare or Environmental Services experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent leadership experience
  • Familiarity with OSHA, The Joint Commission, or other regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Spanish
Potential Career Path

The HHS Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy is designed to create a pathway from military service into healthcare leadership.

At the conclusion of the 16-week program, participants will be evaluated on leadership performance, operational knowledge, professionalism, communication, cultural alignment, and overall readiness for civilian healthcare leadership.

Based on performance and available opportunities, successful participants may be considered for:

  • EVS Assistant Director
  • EVS Director

Employment, position, location, compensation, and promotion are not guaranteed and remain subject to HHS business needs and the applicable hiring process.

This opportunity isexclusively for eligible DoD SkillBridge participantstransitioning from military service into civilian careers.

Participants will continue to receive their military compensation and benefits through the Department of Defense during their approved SkillBridge participation, subject to applicable military policies and eligibility.

The HHS Next Mission EVS Leadership Academy is aleadership development and evaluation program. Successful completion does not guarantee employment with HHS or placement into a specific position.

Participants who successfully demonstrate the leadership capabilities required by HHS may be considered for available EVS Assistant Director or Director opportunities.

Relocation may be required depending on available career opportunities.
