Job Summary Are you a skilled administrative and technical preservation professional looking for an exciting new opportunity. The City of Greenville Police Department is seeking a Property & Evidence Technician to join their team. In this non-sworn role, you will be responsible for managing and preserving evidence, performing data entry, conducting research, and maintaining filing and inventory systems.

Your primary responsibilities include the daily intake of evidence, reviewing and updating laboratory requests and firearms traces, and coordinating with officers and members of the public regarding the release of property. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Examples of Duties Removes and checks in items from temporary lockers; Reviews keyed case information from officers and makes corrections and updates entries; Assigns locations and stores items of evidence and found property; Scans documentation into case reports; Contacts and sets appointments with citizens and other agencies; Releases property to owners, authorized personnel, and other departments; Contacts proper authorities regarding cases; Researches cases and completes petitions, affidavits, and court orders; Mails notification letters to owned and authorized persons; Creates manifest of items to be donated, sold, traded, turned over, or destroyed; Completes destructions and or release of property; Maintains chain of custody on all items and releases items in their custody; Presents evidence and testifies in court trials when necessary; Stocks supplies necessary for property storage and preservation of evidence; Adheres to departmental/city regulations, State statues, and Law Enforcement Practices; Assists with audits, inventories, and destruction of property and evidence; Interacts with other employees, and transfers items to the labs; Performs other duties and related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; and At least 6 months experience in clerical work, inventory management, property and evidence management, or a related area. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: federal, state, and local laws regarding the care and disposition of evidence and property in the custody of the Greenville Police Department. departmental rules, regulations and procedures.

court procedures pertaining to chain of custody testimony. modern police administrative practices and procedures. the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

customer service techniques. Skilled in: organization and inventory management. Ability to: speak clearly so others can understand you.

maintain accurate records for chain of custody. maintain a perpetual inventory control system and to adjust or revise the system as needed. operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages.

work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public. work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Special Requirements FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Must possess and maintain a valid, current N.C

driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges.
