Position Description
MRISJ Overview:The mission of the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice (MRISJ) is to build knowledge about social justice, to develop skills for advancing social justice through individual and collective action, and to serve as a catalyst for actualizing Bridgewater State University's commitment to social justice.
Position Overview:MRISJ is hiring 2 Marketing Assistants to support marketing efforts including creating and updating promotional materials (flyers, posters, social media content, printed collateral, etc.) and event photography/videography.
As a Marketing Assistant, you will work 10 hours per week and collaborate with MRISJ's Marketing Coordinator to gain exposure to various marketing and communication projects including but not limited to content creation, digital design, branding, collateral design, social media planning and print materials.
The Marketing Assistant(s) will help to draft and post student announcements, develop student spotlights, update MRISJ events in EngageBSU, and other tasks/projects as assigned.
Our ideal candidate is comfortable working independently on assigned projects, adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-moving environment and can adapt to meet the shifting needs of the Institute. They should also be comfortable using social media, learning new software and tools and have an interest in social justice. This individual should be passionate about marketing or advertising and looking to get experience in the Digital Marketing space.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Attend occasional MRISJ Student Employee meetings on Thursday evenings 5-7pm (dates will be provided in advance)
  • Support promotion of MRISJ events through EngageBSU, BSU mobile app posts, drafting and posting of student/community announcements, etc.
  • Create and update digital and print collateral such as flyers, posters, handouts, social media content, brochures, etc. for MRISJ events and initiatives in alignment with the MRISJ brand.
  • Develop social media content including Instagram posts & stories promoting MRISJ events, student spotlights, photo/video of events, social justice awareness campaigns, etc.
  • Collaborate with MRISJ marketing team to build and maintain MRISJ content library.
  • Set goals to develop and strengthen professional skills.
  • Marketing Assistants may be invited to represent the MRISJ in various capacities across campus to provide a student's perspective of the work of the MRISJ, including but not limited to, staffing informational tables or events, presenting to classes or students clubs, and sharing about their experience with small or large groups.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need the following:
  • Knowledge of and ability to learn social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and software and tools such as Canva, and Adobe.
  • Other graphic design, photography/videography, copywriting, and editing skills a plus.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to self-motivate and work independently once provided instruction.
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines, sometimes in a fast-moving environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in social justice and civic engagement along with a commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and other students.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a fast-paced, environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to convey ideas and information with students, staff, and community organizations.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to self-motivate and work independently once provided instruction.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at Bridgewater State University as an undergraduate student in good standing.
  • Available to attend occasional Thursday evenings meetings

Responsibilities may include activities such as:
  • standing for varying periods of time
  • transporting materials using rolling carts
  • setting up and breaking down table displays and materials,
  • engaging with students in busy campus environments.
