Description
The House Manager serves as the front-of-house lead during performances and events, overseeing guest experience, audience flow, and operational management. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to manage live-event operations in real-time. House Managers may occasionally assist with box office duties as scheduled or needed.
Job Duties
  • Lead and supervise ushers and other front-of-house staff during events.
  • Manage house opening and closing procedures, seating flow, late seating, and intermission.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guest concerns, ADA accommodations, and front-of-house issues.
  • Coordinate with Box Office, Production, and Security staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Submit a post-event report documenting attendance, issues, and notable observations.
  • Assist with room set-up and furniture arrangement as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed and/or required to support event operations.
  • Ability to think proactively, anticipate patron needs, assess situation in real time and make sound, independent decisions.
  • Represent Samford University with professionalism in all interactions.
  • Maintain composure and good judgment in situations involving guests.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership, communication, and persuasive interpersonal skills.
  • Be punctual, reliable, and able to work in a fast paced, busy environment.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid, current drivers license.
  • Prior experience in event management, guest services, or hospitality.
  • Proficient in use of two-way radios.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as assigned.
  • Ability to climb stairs repeatedly and staff balcony areas.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds and assist with setup of furniture for events as directed.
  • Work in environmental conditions such as noise, flashing or dim lighting, and heights.
  • Communicate effectively in English.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Business, or related field preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
