What is an events intern?

Events Interns are entry-level professionals who assist with the planning, organization, and execution of events such as conferences, meetings, and social gatherings. They typically support event coordinators and managers by performing tasks like researching venues, communicating with vendors, managing event logistics, and helping with on-site event setup and breakdown. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in the events industry, allowing interns to develop organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Events Internships are common stepping stones for those seeking a career in event planning or hospitality management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an events intern?

To thrive as an Events Intern, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of event planning, often supported by coursework in hospitality, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with event management software, virtual meeting platforms, and tools like Microsoft Office or Google Workspace is commonly required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help you adapt to fast-paced environments and client needs. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth event execution and positive experiences for both participants and stakeholders.

What are some common challenges an events intern might face during large-scale event planning, and how can they effectively handle them?

Events Interns often encounter challenges such as last-minute changes, coordinating with multiple vendors, and managing tight deadlines. Effective communication, staying organized with detailed checklists, and being adaptable are key to handling these situations smoothly. Interns are encouraged to proactively ask questions, seek guidance from senior team members, and be ready to step into different support roles as needed. This experience helps build problem-solving skills and resilience, both of which are highly valued in the events industry.

Job description

Title: Videographer & Storyteller Intern - Skyhawks Sports (Treasure Valley)

Some of the most meaningful moments in the Treasure Valley happen on our fields every week. A shy kid making a first friend. A coach speaking belief into a child who has never had someone believe in them. A parent watching their son or daughter light up. We need someone to capture those stories.
Skyhawks Sports runs youth sports camps, classes, and leagues across 7+ cities in the Treasure Valley. Every week, real families experience real moments in our programs.

We are hiring 1 to 2 local Videographer & Storyteller Interns to be on the ground filming those moments and interviewing the parents, kids, and coaches at the center of them.

THE ROLE:
  • This role only works if you are local.
  • You will be at our program sites, on the field, capturing authentic footage and conducting real interviews.
  • This is not a desk internship. You are where the stories actually happen.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Attend Skyhawks camps, classes, and events across the Treasure Valley.
  • Film program footage: drills, games, kids laughing, coaches teaching.
  • Interview parents, kids, and coaches on camera with warmth and curiosity.
  • Capture the small moments that show what actually happens at our programs.
  • Deliver clean, organized footage to our Instagram intern for editing.
  • Occasionally cut your own short-form Reels or testimonial edits.
  • Represent Skyhawks with kindness and professionalism at every site.
  • Propose ideas for engagement and exercise creative liberties.

YOU'RE OUR PERSON IF:
  • You live in the Treasure Valley and have reliable transportation.
  • You are comfortable talking to strangers, especially parents and kids.
  • You have a phone or camera capable of shooting clean video (we can discuss gear).
  • You have basic editing skills or a strong willingness to learn.
  • You are patient with kids and can read a room.
  • You care about telling real stories, not staged ones.
  • You are currently enrolled in a college or university program (college credit preferred).
  • You are organized and willing to work with a team for a collective mission.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:
  • College credit for an accredited internship experience.
  • Portfolio footage of real interviews, real events, real production work.
  • Experience running a shoot from start to finish.
  • Mentorship from our leadership team.
  • Flexible hours around your class schedule.
  • A letter of recommendation for standout contributors.
  • The satisfaction of seeing your work move real families to sign up.

DETAILS:
  • College credit.
  • 6 to 12 hours per week, flexible around program times (weekends and evenings).
  • Local (Treasure Valley) required.
  • Start date flexible.
  • Free or reduced program rates for intern's family.
  • Opportunity to coach if interested for hourly wage.

TO APPLY, email boise@skyhawks.com with:
  • Your college and major.
  • Whether you can receive college credit.
  • What city you live in and your general availability.
  • A link to any video work you have done (phone-shot is fine).
  • What gear you currently have access to.
  • Why this role interests you specifically.
  • What is the most important thing in your life.
