What does an events associate do?

An Events Associate helps plan, coordinate, and execute events such as conferences, meetings, and social gatherings. Their responsibilities typically include managing logistics, communicating with vendors and attendees, assisting with event setup and breakdown, and ensuring that all aspects of the event run smoothly. Events Associates often work closely with event managers and other team members to deliver a successful experience for guests and clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an events associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Events Associate, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in event planning, often supported by a degree in hospitality or a related field. Familiarity with event management software, budgeting tools, and standard office applications is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out when coordinating with vendors, clients, and team members. These skills ensure seamless event execution, client satisfaction, and the ability to handle unexpected challenges effectively.

How does an events associate typically collaborate with vendors and internal teams during the planning process?

As an Events Associate, you’ll frequently coordinate with both external vendors (such as caterers, venues, and audiovisual suppliers) and internal teams (like marketing, sales, and operations) to ensure all event details are aligned. This involves regular communication, managing timelines, and confirming deliverables to keep everyone on track. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, as you’ll be the link between multiple stakeholders, troubleshooting issues and adapting to last-minute changes. These collaborations help ensure events run smoothly and meet organizational objectives.

Job description

Job SummaryNote: Please read "how to apply" section down below for application instructions. We are looking for a Marketing Associate to join our small, fast-moving creative team. You will work alongside Jason, our Graphic Designer, on everything our customers see - social media, the weekly sale flyer, in-store signage, our website, and the photo and video content that ties it all together. This role is for someone who is just as comfortable in front of the camera as behind it. One afternoon you might pull out your phone and record a quick thirty-second video in the meat case; the next you might spend a day capturing footage at a vendor event and then edit it into a polished piece. We want an outgoing personality who enjoys talking to customers and associates, and who can get the people in front of the lens to relax and have fun.We also want a genuine eye for detail and experience with the Adobe creative suite to be able to assist with weekly creation of the sale flyer and marketing materials. This is a self-directed role. You will carry your own projects, bring them to our weekly marketing meeting, and see them through to the finish line without being chased. Duties and ResponsibilitiesCreate photo and video content across all four stores.Shoot and edit content on a regular weekly rhythm, rotating through our Watertown, Woodbury, Prospect and Salisbury stores.Appear on camera yourself for quick, informal videos - product highlights, sale announcements, behind-the-counter moments.Plan and produce longer-form video: write the dialogue and shot list, direct the people on camera, and edit the finished piece.Work with our outside videographer and influencer partners on larger shoots, including off-site vendor visits and in-store events.Photograph the weekly hot deal items so the images are appetizing and engaging enough to make customers shop the sale.Own our social media presence.Build and maintain the social content calendar, and post to Facebook and Instagram several times a week.Schedule and boost posts to line up with the weekly sale, the newsletter, and seasonal campaigns.Run social giveaways and contests, and coordinate promotion with vendors and community partners.Produce the weekly sale flyer and in-store signage.Learn the full flyer process, from a blank InDesign template through to sending the final file to our printer.Take full ownership of the flyer on alternating weeks: circulate it to department directors for review, collect their corrections, and hit the deadline.Design and produce sale signs, posters, shelf signage and department signage, and get them out to the stores on the truck.Print and cut signage in-house. You will be trained on our wide-format printer and paper cutter.Turn around signage requests from store directors quickly - compliance notices, department signage, event posters, wayfinding.Keep our website and blog current.Update our Squarespace site: homepage banners, pop-ups, navigation, landing pages, and the destination pages behind our QR codes.Write blog posts on seasonal topics such as holiday catering and graduation parties.Review monthly search performance with our outside SEO and paid-search partner, and help review their content and ad copy.Support our online ordering and third-party delivery business.Keep our e-commerce store current by capturing and updating product photos and writing accurate item descriptions.Promote our third-party ordering platforms - Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash - on a weekly basis.Help promote online catering ordering, referral coupons and promotional offers.Help plan and execute marketing campaigns from start to finish.Work with Jason, the store directors and our department directors on seasonal sales and holiday promotions.Coordinate with vendors and collaborators on in-store sampling, product collaborations and private label packaging.Support our annual charity golf tournament - sponsor signage, promotion, and hands-on help the day of the event.Help document what we do into repeatable playbooks so each sale and holiday runs smoother than the last.Take part in our weekly marketing meeting and track your own commitments. We run on a structured weekly meeting. You will help build the agenda, report on your projects, raise issues, and own your to-do list in our project tracker (Ninety).Contribute to our quarterly marketing meeting with the store and department directors.Handle internal and associate-facing design work.Orientation and onboarding materials, benefits print-outs, recruiting posters and hiring content.Associate birthday lists, memo posters, contests and internal announcements.Help manage our in-store customer-facing screens and digital signage.Requirements and QualificationsComfortable in front of the camera. You genuinely enjoy being on camera and can record a natural, engaging video of yourself on a phone with little preparation. You are also good at putting other people at ease in front of a lens.Solid Adobe Creative Suite skills. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop - enough to pick up flyer and signage production and be a real second set of hands for Jason, not just a helper. This is the one area where we need more than beginner-level skill.Real video and photo editing ability. You can shoot clean footage, cut it together, add text and music, and deliver something polished. You do not need to be a professional editor, but you should be past the beginner stage and eager to get better.A sharp eye for detail. You notice the faced shelf behind your subject, the typo in the sale price, and the sign that has been hanging crooked for a week - and you fix them.Self-directed and accountable. You can take a project, figure out the steps, and finish it without being asked twice. You keep track of your own commitments and communicate honestly when something is going to slip.Outgoing and easy to work with. You will be talking with customers, associates and store directors constantly. Being approachable and easy to work with matters as much as your creative skills.Understanding of layout, typography, composition, color and design fundamentals.Comfortable working across four store locations. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.Experience with social media management, Squarespace or another website platform, or basic SEO is a plus but not required - we will teach you what you do not know. What You Will GetMedical, dental and vision insurance.Paid time off and paid holidays.401(k) retirement plan.Employee discount.Real ownership of visible projects, and creative guidance and feedback from a designer who has been doing this a long time.Hands-on experience across graphic design, photography and videography, social media, print production and e-commerce - a genuinely broad skill set for a marketing career. How to ApplyEmail Rob (rob@labonnes.com) and Jason (Jason.L@labonnes.com) with the subject line "Marketing Associate Application." Include your resume and a small portfolio - a website, PDF, or slide show works fine.We want to see two things in your portfolio:Anything showing your creative work: graphic design, digital illustration, photography, photo editing. School projects, freelance work and things you made just for fun are all welcome. At least one video, and ideally one you appear in yourself. It does not need to be professionally produced - a phone video where you are talking to the camera about why you want the role would be great. If you have social accounts you have grown or content you have posted, send those links too.
