Job description

The Excel Center - Northern Indiana is a high-quality, free, public high school for adult learners 18 and older. We provide coursework toward completing the required credits for students to earn an Indiana Core 40 diploma (not a TASC/GED/HSE program). Our students benefit from a structured learning environment with direct/ face-to-face instruction, an accelerated format, small classes and individualized attention that meets the unique needs of adult learners. All students are assigned a life coach providing academic and personal counseling to support students pursuing their goals. Our staff have a significant impact on the lives of students seeking a second chance to change their lives. The Excel Center also requires students to earn industry-recognized certificates and/or dual credit college courses. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative team to assist in this endeavor.

Summary

The Special Education Coordinator will hold primary responsibility to oversee and lead the implementation of Special Education services across theMichiana Excel Center network, which includes multiple campuses. This individual will provide direct support to Special Education teachers, ensure the quality and compliance of all IEPs, and play a critical leadership role in shaping and maintaining high-quality Special Education services. While this role may involve limited direct instruction, its primary focus is on program coordination, staff oversight, and compliance assurance.

Duties

Network Leadership and Oversight

  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight to all Special Education teachers in theMichiana Excel Center network.
  • Review IEPs written by staff across the region for accuracy, compliance, and quality.
  • Assist with professional development and coaching to ensure best practices in Special Education are implemented across all campuses.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for all Special Education-related compliance and reporting matters.

Policy, Program, and Compliance

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures aligned with state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the evaluation and assessment process for determining student eligibility for Special Education services.
  • Monitor adherence to IEP accommodations and modifications, particularly in standardized testing and instructional settings.
  • Maintain accurate, compliant records in accordance with Indiana DOE and school requirements.
  • Provide support for English Language Learners (ELLs) as needed, including overseeing ILPs and compliance with WIDA protocols.

IEP Development and Support

  • Write and approve Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) when needed, including forany school in the Michiana Excel Center network.
  • Lead or support case conferences and ensure measurable goals and transition plans are included in each IEP.
  • Coordinate referrals to outside services and community partners as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education staff to ensure accommodation is communicated and properly implemented.

Additional Duties

  • Participate in network-wide academic strategy meetings and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with campus leadership to support recruitment and student success.
  • Support testing coordination, enrollment events, and special programming as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Execute recruitment strategies to attract prospective students through outreach and events.
  • Participate in administrative leadership meetings.

Education

  • Master's degree preferred

Qualifications

  • Flexible availability for daytime and evening.
  • Current driver's license and adequate automobile insurance required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Indiana Special Education Teaching License (required)
  • Evidence of superior verbal and written communication skills; strong motivational skills.
  • Evidence of self-motivation and willingness to be a team player; adaptable to shifting priorities.
  • Experience developing and managing IEPs, with strong knowledge of Indiana DOE compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead peers in instructional and compliance practices
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in adult education or non-traditional high school settings is a plus
