Job description

Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with a platform spanning venue development and end-to-end capabilities across venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. The Event Staff team provides exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting guests, monitoring entry points, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment during all events. This role serves as a front-line representative of the facility, responding to guest needs, observing crowd behavior, and communicating effectively with event management. Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm and adaptable in high-pressure situations are essential. This position is based on-site at the Mobile Convention Center and follows standard business hours, with flexibility required to support operational and event needs, including occasional mornings, evenings, and weekends. The role requires extended periods of standing and walking while maintaining a professional and visible presence throughout the facility. Regular attendance, reliability, and professional conduct are essential to success in this position.

This role pays an hourly rate of $11.50 – $13.00

The Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center is a spectacular facility providing excellent meeting accommodations. It features 317,000 gross sq. ft., including a 100,000 sq. ft. exhibit hall, and a unique design with terraces for outdoor functions and breathtaking views of the Mobile River.


  • Provide exceptional guest relations by greeting and directing guests, monitoring prohibited items (e.g., cameras/video equipment), securing restricted areas, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the overall safety and satisfaction of all guests.
  • Maintain full knowledge of assigned event posts—including ticket taking, ushering, concierge services, security positions, crowd control, door screening, and general guest relations—and communicate effectively with patrons. Anticipate potential issues and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Utilize 2-way radio communication to ensure efficient and effective responses to patron needs and operational concerns.
  • Observe and assess employee and crowd behavior before, during, and after events to identify potential issues or safety concerns.
  • Represent the company in a polite, professional manner at all times, demonstrating strong customer service skills.
  • Direct customer service complaints and inquiries to the appropriate manager or supervisor for resolution.
  • Follow all facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complete incident reports when witnessing any on-site injury or safety-related occurrence.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by following all life safety and emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain open availability to work events on an ongoing basis, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and demeanor to generate positive public relations with guests and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Senior Event Manager and Event Manager.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in event services, guest services, crowd management, or crowd control is a plus, but not required. Training will be provided.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with guests, clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and all individuals encountered on the job.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus, maintaining positive and effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to receive, understand, and follow direction from supervisors and facility management.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across all levels of staff, including management.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, event needs, and operational demands.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solutions-oriented when handling or de-escalating high-tension situations, including managing unruly or disruptive guests.
