Job description

Title: Security Guard
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides general security services to the campus and assists campus police officers with routine patrols and other security measures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform job duties from the assigned campus or work location. Patrols campus by foot, bicycle or motor vehicle. Identifies and reports suspected crimes, accidents or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature. Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probable cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required. Provides security for special events. Writes citations for parking violations.
Provides direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff and students in unusual or emergency situations. Participates in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers. Monitors classrooms, offices and buildings for safety and/or maintenance concerns. Maintains and utilizes security equipment. Maintains department records and prepares reports. May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Tennessee driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior security or law enforcement experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Good customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a wide range of faculty, staff and student population. Demonstrated self-restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to occasionally travel throughout the service area as needed. Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need
