POSITION DESCRIPTION

DIVISION/LOCATION: Fiber Cement Siding / Roaring River, NC

POSITION TITLE: Process Engineer

REPORTS TO TITLE: Plant Manager

GENERAL FUNCTION

The primary function of this position is to assist in the production of cost effective, high quality FiberCement siding through technological and procedural process development and implementation. The Process Engineer maintains existing plant processes, plant equipment and coordinates process improvement projects while working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administration & Support/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES --

  • Assists in the review of process performance and related quality issues involving raw materials, equipment and procedures
  • Identify and solve production related problems and implement changes to manufacturing processes using various troubleshooting methodologies, root cause analysis, event review and operations meetings
  • Monitors current processes and communicates anomalies with manufacturing process parameters.
  • Resolve system failures, maintain system equipment and perform minor repairs on computer-related and process control equipment.
  • Design, specify and coordinate new equipment procurement and installation as needed
  • New process control and procedure introduction and training
  • Maintains and updates MMI (Man Machine Interfaces)
  • Maintains PLC backup files and schedule for backup
  • Actively participates in Roaring River safety committee and subcommittees, as well as conducts plant safety audits
  • Participate in training programs to enhance environmental and safety performance
  • Perform assigned tasks as specified in the environmental procedures and work instructions
  • Understand the significant environmental impacts of my job activities and the consequences of departing from specified work instructions
  • Know where EHS documents are located

PROBLEM-SOLVING --

  • Must be able to demonstrate creativity and initiative in attacking and solving problems
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks quickly

KNOWLEDGE --

  • 4-year BS Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution or 5-10 years equivalent work experience
  • 5-10 years experience with paint, or in an OEM setting that uses paint in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computer and information technology
  • Proficient in Wonder Ware, Access, Excel, and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must be highly computer literate and have knowledge of process engineering software
  • Must be able to demonstrate technical, electrical, and mechanical aptitude
  • Should be fluent in the application of lean manufacturing, cost reduction, statistical process control and optimization techniques
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques, problem solving methods, technical drawings, maintenance techniques and manufacturing techniques are required
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed
  • Must have excellent written/verbal skills as well as analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Responsible for observing all plant standard operating procedures and safety policies
  • Must participate in a safety committee and participate in safety activities
  • Must work safely
  • Position requires approximately 5% travel
