Position summary
This person supports the efforts of the Doctor of Ministry program by working directly with participants and advisors to improve the writing quality of professional dissertations. The primary focus of this person's responsibility is the success of DMin participants in their projects. This person interprets, applies, and recommends policy changes to and/or with the DMin director, and assists participants.
Qualifications summary
A doctoral degree is required (PhD or DMin) from an accredited institution and 5-10 years of work experience in ministry and theological education. Experience in research and academic writing is required. Since the work includes dealing with ministers in the field, pastoral experience is required and highly valuable.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing. Duties and responsibilities
- Serve as acting Director as needed when the Director is out of the office.
- Conduct the program orientation for new cohorts (Spanish and English) when the Director is not available.
- Chair defenses as needed.
- Archive approved proposals for future reference.
- Create and distribute agenda for staff meetings.
- Functions as liaison to Spanish DMin coordinator for the creation of new Spanish DMin concentrations and cohorts.
- Pre-screen all project proposals for proper style, formatting, and academic writing issues prior to the Project Proposal Subcommittee review.
- Correspond with the participant and provide them with coaching to correct any matters of concern prior to the Project Proposal Subcommittee review.
- Receive completed project proposals and distribute the proposals to members of the DMin Project Proposal Subcommittee one week prior to meetings.
- Forward the recommendations of the Project Proposal Subcommittee to the DMin Committee.
- Correspond with participants and advisors regarding the actions of the DMin Project Proposals Subcommittee and the DMin Committee.
- Serve on the IRB committee, process and submit DMin participants IRB applications.
- Serve as a member of the DMin Project Proposal Sub-committee
- Schedule meetings for the DMin Project Proposal Subcommittee.
- Keep minutes for the DMin Project Proposal Subcommittee.
- Serve as a member of the DMin Committee.
- Serve as a faculty teaching the Professional Dissertation Seminar, Field Research Methods Seminar for English and Spanish cohorts.
- Periodically update the DMin Project Writing Manual (English and Spanish).
- Develop resources to assist participants in writing their professional dissertations.
- Serve as the DMin Advisors' coordinator and implementation of conferences.
- Lead out in recruiting and orienting/training advisors.
- Function as liaison for and maintaining an updated list of available DMin advisors.
- Periodically update the DMin Advisors Handbook.
- Develop resources to assist advisors in their duties.
- Prepare packets and schedule students for Advancement to Candidacy in their second year.
- Personally advise a usual faculty load of DMin participants.
- Ensure assessment data from defense rubrics are submitted in a timely manner to the seminary assessment director.
- Contribute to the DMin website in the areas pertaining to projects.
- Provide updated information for the master schedule as needed.
- Update/remind Advisors of any schedule changes so they can plan accordingly.
- In event of vacancies, post jobs, screen resumes, and recommend top applicants for consideration.
- Other tasks as assigned by the director.
