What is an event design assistant?

Event Design Assistants are professionals who support event planners and designers in creating visually appealing and cohesive event experiences. Their responsibilities often include assisting with décor setup, sourcing materials, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring the design vision is executed on-site. They work closely with the lead event designer to help bring creative concepts to life, whether for weddings, corporate events, or parties. This role requires a keen eye for detail, creativity, and strong organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an event design assistant?

To thrive as an Event Design Assistant, you need a solid understanding of event planning processes, creativity, attention to detail, and often a background in design or hospitality. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, event management platforms, and basic budgeting tools is commonly required. Strong organizational skills, teamwork, and effective communication set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills are vital for executing visually appealing, well-coordinated events that meet client expectations and run smoothly.

What are some common challenges event design assistants face when executing event setups, and how can they be overcome?

Event Design Assistants often encounter challenges such as tight setup timelines, last-minute client changes, and coordinating with multiple vendors. To overcome these, it’s important to stay organized by maintaining detailed checklists, establishing clear communication channels with the team, and being adaptable to shifting priorities. Proactive planning and a collaborative mindset help ensure that creative vision and logistical requirements are balanced, resulting in successful event execution even under pressure.

What is the difference between Event Design Assistant vs Event Coordinator?

Job description

Commercial Sales Consultant - Building Materials
Detroit / Ann Arbor, MI
Pella is seeking an experienced Commercial Sales Consultant to drive market share growth across the Detroit and Ann Arbor commercial markets. This role is designed for a proven commercial sales professional with experience selling technical building products to architects, engineers, and commercial contractors through a specification-driven, consultative sales approach.
You will serve as a technical business partner throughout the project lifecycle, supporting value engineering, influencing design decisions, and securing project wins from concept through construction.
The Role
This is a field-based, quota-carrying commercial sales role with ownership of a defined territory. You will spend at least 60% of your time in the field calling on architecture firms, engineering partners, GCs, and job sites, pursuing mid-to-large commercial projects and expanding Pella's footprint in the market.
Key Responsibilities
  • Influence commercial project specifications through early engagement with architects and engineers
  • Position Pella solutions through value engineering, design-assist, and technical consultation
  • Pursue and secure new commercial opportunities while expanding share within existing strategic accounts
  • Build long-term partnerships across architects, GCs, owners, and commercial organizations
  • Represent Pella at architecture firms, commercial associations, and industry networking events
  • Provide technical expertise related to fenestration performance, building codes, and installation requirements
  • Navigate multi-stakeholder sales cycles with confidence and credibility
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, estimating, operations, and service teams
  • Manage pipeline, project activity, and forecasting within CRM
  • Ensure accurate quoting, ordering, and adherence to sales and operational processes

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial B2B sales within building materials or construction
  • Existing network within the Detroit or Ann Arbor commercial construction community
  • Experience influencing specifications and long-cycle commercial projects
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings
  • Proven ability to sell value-based, technical solutions rather than commodity products
  • Window, door, façade, façade systems, or architectural products experience preferred (not required)

What Pella Offers
  • Competitive base salary + uncapped commission
  • Guaranteed commission ramp during first 3 months
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, HSA & FSA plans, life and disability insurance, tuition assistance, and more!
  • Home office with flexible schedule autonomy

Location & Territory
  • Based in Downtown Detroit or Ann Arbor
  • Local market travel required
  • No relocation package available
