Job description

EVENT LEAD
Location: Off-Premise • Saint Paul, MN (events across the Twin Cities metro area)
Compensation: $22.00-$28.00 per hour + tip eligible
Schedule: Variable • 8+ hour shifts • Weekdays, evenings, and weekends

This isn't just a service role. Our Event Leads are trusted to lead teams, manage client relationships, solve problems on the fly, and take ownership of successful event execution from setup through teardown. As an Event Lead, you'll supervise event teams, serve as the primary on-site contact for clients and venue partners, and help deliver exceptional guest experiences at weddings, corporate events, galas, and special occasions throughout the Twin Cities. From elegant weddings to high-energy corporate events, no two events are the same, and every shift brings a new venue, team, and experience.
ABOUT US
Hightop Hospitality powers five catering brands: The Deco Catering, Kafe 421, Sterling Catering, Green Mill Catering, and Stonehouse Catering. Our teams execute a wide variety of weddings, corporate events, social gatherings, and special events throughout the Twin Cities metro area. We value teamwork, adaptability, hospitality, and creating memorable guest experiences. Our Event Leads play a critical role in representing our brands on-site, making real-time decisions, leading teams, and ensuring events are executed to the highest standards.
SCHEDULE
This is a year-round position with variable hours based on event schedules. Most shifts occur evenings and weekends, with peak demand from May through October.
WHAT YOU'LL LEAD
Team Leadership
• Lead event staff during setup, service, and teardown
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and assign responsibilities
• Delegate tasks and maintain team productivity throughout events
• Provide coaching, direction, and support to team members during service
• Help train and mentor newer staff members
Event Execution
• Review event details, timelines, layouts, and BEOs prior to events
• Ensure food, beverage, equipment, and supplies are event-ready and properly packed
• Coordinate event setup to ensure accurate execution and presentation
• Support buffet service, plated meals, receptions, and bar operations
• Ensure dietary accommodations, allergy requests, and special meals are executed correctly
• Monitor food quality, presentation standards, and food safety practices
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional event spaces
• Assist with loading and unloading inventory and supplies at the commissary kitchen
• Drive catering vehicles as needed
Client & Venue Management
• Serve as the primary on-site contact for clients and venue partners
• Manage guest, client, and venue requests professionally and efficiently
• Address challenges and service issues in real time
• Monitor event flow and adjust staffing or operations as needed to ensure success
• Represent Hightop Hospitality and Stonehouse Catering with professionalism and confidence
Event Follow-Up
• Complete post-event reports
• Communicate event outcomes and operational feedback to management
• Report client feedback, equipment concerns, inventory issues, and service opportunities
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Depending on experience and interest, Event Leads may also assist with:
• Staff training and development
• Event planning and coordination support
• Pre-event packing and equipment preparation
• Delivery and drop-off/setup shifts
• Operational improvement initiatives
• Leadership development opportunities
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Must be at least 18 years old
• 2+ years of catering, hospitality, banquet, or event experience preferred
• Previous leadership, supervisory, captain, or management experience preferred
• Experience working directly with clients or guests in a hospitality setting preferred
• Knowledge of food safety practices and management of dietary restrictions or allergen accommodations preferred
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to drive company catering vehicles
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
