Job description

Position Overview

Atrium Counseling Services is actively seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our virtual team. In this full-time role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering specialized mental health care to individuals navigating the challenging effects of trauma. We are located in Syracuse, New York, and provide a work-from-home setup that allows our therapists to perform their crucial work in a supportive environment.

About the Organization

Atrium Counseling Services is a well-regarded community health clinic focused on providing trauma-informed care. Our team is dedicated to fostering healing and resilience among individuals affected by trauma, including but not limited to those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and dissociative disorders. Our commitment lies in creating a safe and nurturing environment where every client feels supported in their mental health journey.

Work Environment

This position offers the flexibility of remote work, providing you with the best of both worlds: the comfort of working from home while being part of a dynamic and collaborative team focused on trauma recovery. Our operational hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some flexibility needed based on patient needs, ensuring work-life balance while maximizing patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough trauma-informed assessments to evaluate patients' trauma histories, actively engaging them in discussions to establish a trusting therapeutic relationship.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans focused on trauma recovery and resilience-building, integrating the latest research and evidence-based practices.
  • Deliver various therapeutic interventions, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), tailoring approaches to fit each client's unique needs.
  • Facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions, providing a safe space for clients to express their feelings and develop effective coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure comprehensive and integrated care for all patients, enhancing treatment outcomes.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during trauma-related emergencies, ensuring that clients have immediate access to necessary resources.
  • Educate patients and their families on trauma responses and available coping mechanisms, empowering them with the knowledge to aid in their recovery process.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards, using electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively to track progress and treatment plans.
  • Engage in case consultations, team meetings, and professional development activities focused on trauma-informed care to continuously enhance your skills.
  • Stay informed of the latest research and best practices in trauma therapy through ongoing education and workshops.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will be working primarily with a diverse range of clients who have experienced various types of trauma, from childhood abuse to recent traumatic events, including those with PTSD and complex trauma. This requires a deep understanding and sensitivity toward the nuances of trauma and its multifaceted impacts on mental health.

Qualifications
  • A Masterโ€™s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
  • Current and valid licensure as an LMFT, LMHC, LCSW, or LCSW-R in New York is essential to practice in this role.
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-licensure experience is preferred, demonstrating familiarity with trauma-informed practices and therapies.
  • Proficiency in trauma-focused therapeutic modalities, especially EMDR and TF-CBT, will be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, along with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach to therapy.
  • A calm demeanor during high-stress scenarios is vital, enabling effective crisis management.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and computer applications is highly desired, supporting efficient documentation and patient tracking.
Preferred Experience

We prefer candidates who have a strong background in trauma-related disorders and a comprehensive approach to treatment modalities. Familiarity with a variety of therapeutic interventions will set you apart, along with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team offering integrated care.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers an annual salary ranging from $90,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, a retirement savings plan with employer-matching contributions, generous paid time off (PTO), professional liability insurance, and continuous education opportunities to foster your professional development.

Career Growth Opportunities

Atrium Counseling Services is committed to fostering the personal and professional growth of our team. You will have access to opportunities for advancement within our organization, particularly as we expand our trauma-informed practices and serve more clients in need of specialized care.
