The Thomas G. Carpenter Library at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking a collaborative, data-driven Assessment and User Experience Librarian to lead initiatives that enhance library services, collections, spaces and digital environments through evidence based, user-centered decision-making. This is a 12-month, non-tenure earning University Assistant Librarian position of Library or Information Science, reports to the Associate Dean of Library Operations and Engagement. Responsibilities include assessment activities across the library while developing and coordinating User Experience (UX) initiatives. The Assessment and User Experience Librarian routinely evaluates assessment and UX practices to ensure they support the mission and strategic goals of both the library and the University.
Supervisor: This position reports to the Associate Dean of Library Operations and Engagement.
Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm with occasional library events which may require extended hours.
Supervision Exercised: This is not a supervisory role.
Required Licensure: ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science, or related advanced degree.
Required Qualifications / Skills:
Assessment Strategy and Leadership:
- Will gather, analyze, and interpret, and communicates qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of library services, programs, collections, spaces, and digital environments and to support continuous improvement.
- Responsible for collaborating with library colleagues to collect and assess relevant data and represents the library in campus, regional, state, and national assessment and UX initiatives.
- Leads and advances a culture of assessment and user-centered decision-making, aligning initiatives with institutional goals and accreditation requirements.
- Coordinates and supports library-wide assessment and UX efforts, including data collection, analysis, and consultation with library units to develop meaningful measures and communicate impact.
- Informs strategic planning and organizational decision-making through analysis and communication of evidence-based findings.
- Develops long-term assessment and UX plans and maintains expertise in assessment methods, UX research, and service design.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Designs and implements assessment methods (surveys, interviews, focus groups, and mixed methods).
- Analyzes, visualizes, and reports data (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), developing dashboards and presentations to communicate impact and support decision-making.
- Conduct benchmarking and trend analysis (e.g., ACRL, ARL).
- Coordinates data preparation for national surveys, accreditation, and institutional reporting
User Experience and Service Design
- Leads development and implementation of a coordinated, library-wide UX strategy aligned with assessment and organizational priorities.
- Conducts usability testing and user research, engaging users to identify needs, barriers, and opportunities to improve services, spaces, and digital experiences.
- Analyzes user engagement, interactions, and impact to identify trends, underserved populations, and priorities for user-centered improvements.
- Collaborates with library units to design and assess UX enhancements and promotes integration of UX principles into planning and decision-making.
Collaboration, Outreach, and Professional Engagement
- Serves as library liaison for assigned academic department(s). In collaboration with teaching and research faculty in the colleges, develops select areas of the library's subject resources by identifying and selecting new materials for the collection and by evaluating existing materials for possible withdrawal from the collection. Engages with departmental faculty to better understand and meet their library needs, develops collegial partnerships, and promotes library services and resources.
- Contributes to overall collection development through participation in the evaluation and development of the collection and in the review and selection of research databases and other library resources as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively with library faculty, staff, campus partners, and institutional stakeholders to advance assessment, UX, and continuous improvement initiatives to advance assessment, UX, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Represents the library in campus, regional, and national assessment and UX communities, including participation in relevant FLVC and professional communities as appropriate.
- Develops training and documentation related to assessment tools, data literacy, UX methods, and evidence-based practice.
Other Job Accountabilities:
