How much do evening stocker jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for evening stocker in the United States is $15.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $13.46 and $16.83 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What hours does a night stocker work?

A night stocker typically works evening or overnight shifts, often starting in the late evening and ending early morning, such as from 9 or 10 PM to 5 or 6 AM. These shifts are common in retail and grocery stores to prepare stock for the next day and usually require the ability to work independently in a quiet environment.

What Does an Evening Stocker Do?

As an evening stocker, you work in a retail shop or grocery store and fulfill your duties after business hours. You inspect and take an inventory of products on shelves to determine which items need attention, receive new merchandise from your company warehouse, unpack boxes, and replenish items on store shelves. You arrange products in an attractive, well-organized way, and your responsibilities also include reporting damaged merchandise, displays, or signage and updating inventory lists so that management knows which items to reorder. In many jobs, you are also responsible for cleaning display shelves and disposing of packing boxes so that the store is ready to reopen in the morning.

What is the difference between Evening Stocker vs Overnight Stocker?

Work EnvironmentRetail store during open hoursStore after hours, quieter environment

Both Evening Stockers and Overnight Stockers perform stocking and inventory tasks in retail environments. The main difference lies in their work hours, with Evening Stockers working in the evening before store closing, and Overnight Stockers working during late-night hours after closing. Their responsibilities are similar, focusing on restocking and organizing shelves, but the timing impacts their work environment and shift routines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Evening Stocker, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evening Stocker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and basic math skills, often with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with inventory management systems and handheld barcode scanners is typically required. Reliability, time management, and teamwork are important soft skills that help you excel in this role. These skills ensure shelves are restocked efficiently and accurately, maintaining store operations and customer satisfaction during peak hours.

What are some typical challenges an Evening Stocker might face during a shift?

Evening Stockers often encounter challenges such as keeping up with large shipments that need to be shelved before the store closes, navigating crowded aisles during peak shopping hours, and ensuring inventory is accurately rotated to prevent expired products. Working after regular business hours can also mean fewer team members on hand, requiring stockers to be self-motivated and efficient. Additionally, maintaining a clean and organized workspace while meeting time-sensitive stocking goals is essential for success in this role.

What are evening stockers?

Evening stockers are employees who work in retail stores, usually during the late afternoon or night, to restock shelves, organize inventory, and ensure that products are properly displayed for customers. Their responsibilities often include unloading deliveries, checking inventory levels, and maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the sales floor. Evening stockers play a key role in keeping stores ready for business by making sure items are available and easy for customers to find.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

An evening stocker typically earns less than $4,000 per week; high-paying jobs that do not require a degree often include roles such as commercial truck drivers, sales managers, or skilled trades like electricians and plumbers, which may offer weekly earnings around or above that amount with experience and certifications. These jobs usually require specialized skills, licenses, or on-the-job training rather than a college degree.

What jobs can only be done at night?

Evening stocker positions are typically scheduled exclusively during nighttime hours to prepare stores for the next day. Other jobs that often occur only at night include security guards, night shift nurses, and overnight warehouse workers, as these roles require 24-hour coverage or operational needs outside regular daytime hours.

What company pays the most for overnight stocking?

For evening stockers or overnight stockers, pay rates vary by retailer and location, but generally, large national chains like Costco, Sam's Club, and some warehouse clubs tend to offer higher wages for overnight stocking positions. These companies often pay above minimum wage and may include additional shift differentials for overnight hours, making them some of the highest-paying employers in this role.
