Air Threat Simulator Pilot (VATS) SME - 27675

Anticipated Salary Range: $128,992.00 - $208,000.00

Security Clearance: Top Secret

Level of Experience: Senior

Global Security (GS) is a division of Mission Technologies. This role resides with GS and is located at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center – Nellis (JITTC‑N), Nellis AFB, NV. The primary responsibility is to operate the Variable Air Threat Simulator (VATS) from the cockpit and/or console to support USAF Weapons School, operational test units, and deployed combat squadrons. The incumbent may also provide subject matter expertise in mission planning, simulator academics, and debriefing tools, coordinating with unit Weapons Officers/Instructor Pilots to present realistic air pictures and achieve training objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Operate VATS fighter simulator cockpit controls, including digital cockpit displays, stick & throttle, advanced sensor integration, and multi‑aircraft formations.
  • Act as Mission Director or Red Czar when required.
  • Operate the simulator console and debriefing system during and after missions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on threat air tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) for planning and execution of JITTC‑N operations.
  • Support development, coordination, and integration of JITTC‑N events to maximize training effectiveness.
  • Orchestrate scenarios and provide constructive input for training events.
  • Create and modify mission‑planning materials and academics to ensure participants achieve maximum training.
  • Provide instructor‑level expertise to shape tactical training for participants.
  • Report issues related to simulation software applications and provide basic troubleshooting support.
  • Lead small teams to achieve desired customer requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 15+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelors degree in a related field; 13+ years with a Masters; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19+ years of experience.
  • Current or former military fighter pilot.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Position is not eligible for remote work; requires on‑site presence and availability for morning, evening, and flexible schedule shifts.
  • Must have had an active Top Secret clearance within the last 24 months.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with relevant SAP/SAR clearance.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with fifth generation fighter aircraft and systems.
  • Graduation from a Weapons School.
  • Former Instructor Pilot or Flight Evaluator experience.
  • Experience in a Joint Simulation Environment (JSE).
  • Experience with NGTS.
Physical Requirements

Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
