Job description

Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection dosage regimen design effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with relating medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.

If you're passionate about Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and eager to maintain a strong foundation across diverse pediatric specialties, this role offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity.
What You'll Do:
  • Deliver expert pharmacy support across 126 pediatric beds, primarily on day shift.
  • Train and rotate through:
    • Inpatient Hematology/Oncology/GI
    • General Pediatrics (Endocrine, Renal, Cardiac, Solid Organ Transplants including livers, kidneys, and hearts)
    • Ambulatory Infusion Center
    • Optional: Ambulatory Hematology/Oncology and Rheumatology
  • Staff every 4th weekend, providing dedicated pediatric clinical coverage rotating through day or evening shift.

Beyond the Bench:
  • Participate in order optimization within the electronic medical record and patient safety initiatives
  • Partner with medical staff to ensure seamless transitions of care

Minimum Qualifications -
  • Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm. D Degree required.
  • Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience. (3.years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.
  • Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy. License required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider. BLS certification required

Job requires standing and traveling for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull
Onboarding Requirements
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is $64.37 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
