Job description

Position Summary

To perform custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other responsibilities necessary to ensure District buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, sanitary, and secure condition, and to provide leadership and coordination for custodial operations during the evening shift.


Essential Responsibilities

The following duties are considered essential functions of this position.


Custodial Responsibilities

  • Maintain buildings and premises, including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, sidewalks, and other assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Complete assigned cleaning schedules and daily custodial responsibilities.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and remove trash.
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
  • Operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools.
  • Assist with event setup, teardown, and facility preparation.
  • Move furniture and equipment as needed for school activities and events.
  • Assist cafeteria staff with general cleaning and unloading or storage of deliveries when needed.

Safety and Security

  • Secure buildings and facilities at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify safety concerns or facility issues.
  • Respond appropriately to spills, broken glass, weather-related issues, and other urgent situations.
  • Report damage to school property, maintenance needs, and safety concerns.
  • Comply with established procedures regarding the storage and disposal of hazardous materials.

Lead Evening Shift Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead custodian for evening operations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for administrators regarding facility issues occurring during second shift hours.
  • Coordinate evening custodial activities and assist with assigning priorities when unexpected needs arise.
  • Provide guidance and support to evening custodial staff as needed.
  • Assist in addressing staffing needs, emergencies, and operational concerns during the evening shift.
  • Communicate facility concerns, maintenance needs, and significant incidents to the Facilities Manager.
  • Ensure assigned custodial responsibilities are completed and facilities are prepared for the next school day.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate effectively with custodial staff, administrators, and other employees.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Communicate effectively regarding facility needs and operational concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Principal, Superintendent, or designee.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, maintenance, or related services preferred.
  • Demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality, and dependability, with the ability to serve as a consistent leader and point of contact during evening operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and work effectively with others.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean and safe facilities.
  • Willingness to work evening hours.
