Job description

Under direct supervision, the Senior Lab Assistant utilizes appropriate equipment to receive, accession, process pathology and laboratory specimens as well as to provide laboratory reports and information to customers. The Senior Lab Assistant assists in the development, training and monitoring of all Phlebotomy lab Assistants.
Education:
• High school degree or equivalent required.
Licensures/Certifications:
• N/A
Experience:
2 years clinical laboratory work experience
Skills:
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Skill in demonstrating customer service techniques
• Skill in oral and written communication
• Skill in performing basic arithmetic
• Ability to recognize, analyze and solve problems
• Ability to type accurately and quickly
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Enters patient demographic information, laboratory tests orders, and verifies collection /receipt of specimens with completeness and accuracy.
• Assigns daily workload and ensures adequate coverage to include the ON-Call schedule in a timely manner with changes approved by Supervisor.
• Assists in the orienting and training of new employees
• Prepares and processes specimens for all testing in the clinical laboratory to include, labeling, measuring, aliquoting, centrifuging, and the like. Distributes specimens to the appropriate work area.
• Assists with the development/revision of work procedures for assigned areas and evaluation process of employees.
• Assists in the event of Computer downtime and ensures that all staff know and understands procedure.
• Assists in the development and implementation of competency skills and testing. Ensures all Competency tests are completed in a timely manner for all staff.
• Ensures samples are accurate for referral testing. Ensures that all employees in department are doing the same Ensures all referral documentation is complete and being done by all staff.
• Reviews unreceived report on a daily basis.
• Actively participates in the Laboratory's continuing education program and meets requirements as described in the Laboratory Continuing Education Policy. Shares knowledge gained from seminars, workshops, etc. through formal and informal presentations.
• Ensures all patient samples are properly identified and all requisitions are double checked for correct orders
• Completes associated responsibilities such as, centrifuge maintenance, label maintenance and stocks and maintains supplies.
• Ensures all documentation is completed and current for centrifuge and label printers.

Pay Range
$17.35 - $26.36
Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
