Description
High-Voltage (HV) Battery Technician
The High-Voltage (HV) Battery Technician is responsible for the assembly, inspection, testing, diagnosis, repair, rework, and validation of high-voltage battery modules and battery pack systems used in automotive vehicles. This position performs complex mechanical and electrical work involving high-voltage components while ensuring compliance with company quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing processes.
The HV Battery Technician utilizes specialized diagnostic equipment, electrical test instruments, and manufacturing tools to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and functional issues related to battery systems. This role requires a strong understanding of high-voltage safety practices, electrical systems, torque specifications, and battery assembly processes.
In addition to supporting battery manufacturing operations, the technician will provide cross-functional support within General Assembly, Body Shop, and Paint Shop operations as production demands require.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
  • Assemble, inspect, repair, and rework high-voltage battery modules, battery packs, and associated electrical and mechanical components.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and functional issues using diagnostic software, multimeters, insulation resistance testers, torque verification equipment, and other specialized tools.
  • Perform troubleshooting and corrective actions on battery systems, wiring harnesses, connectors, cooling systems, sensors, and electrical components.
  • Verify proper operation of battery systems through functional testing, electrical validation, leak testing, and quality inspections.
  • Perform battery pack tear-down, component replacement, and reassembly following engineering specifications and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all High-Voltage (HV) safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements, PPE requirements, and electrical safety standards.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company quality standards, engineering specifications, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Document inspection results, repairs performed, diagnostic findings, non-conformances, and rework activities within company production and quality systems.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams with root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Verify torque specifications, component installation, electrical connections, and fit and finish requirements throughout the battery assembly process.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting on battery assembly equipment and production tools.
  • Support prototype builds, pilot production, engineering validation activities, and new product launches as assigned.
  • Crosstrain and provide production support in General Assembly, Body Shop, Paint Shop, or other manufacturing operations when business needs require.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Follow all company safety policies, environmental requirements, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in automotive manufacturing, EV manufacturing, battery assembly, electrical assembly, or related manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with high-voltage battery systems or high-voltage electrical components preferred.
  • Experience assembling, repairing, or troubleshooting battery modules, battery packs, or automotive electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, torque specifications, and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Experience using electrical diagnostic equipment including multimeters, insulation testers, continuity testers, and torque verification tools.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage safety procedures and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement environments.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
  • ASE, EV, High-Voltage, Electrical, or Automotive certifications are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High-Voltage Vehicle Safety Training or equivalent certification.
  • Experience working in an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting prototype, pilot, or low-volume vehicle production.
  • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS), battery cooling systems, and electrical integration.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage battery construction, assembly, and repair techniques.
  • Ability to safely work around energized and de-energized high-voltage systems.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and support multiple manufacturing departments.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 100% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in a manufacturing/ warehouse environment. When working in the facility, it requires the use of personal protective equipment, including (but not limited to) steel toe shoes, bump caps, and safety goggles. Reflective colored vest and ear protection is required in certain areas.

Compensation:
$29.00/per hour - $35.00/per hour. Compensation will vary DOE.
