What is an ETRM Business Analyst?

ETRM Business Analysts are professionals who specialize in Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems. They bridge the gap between business users and IT teams by analyzing business processes, gathering requirements, and ensuring that ETRM solutions effectively support trading, risk management, and regulatory compliance in the energy sector. Their role often involves improving trading workflows, data management, reporting, and helping organizations adapt to market and regulatory changes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ETRM Business Analyst?

To thrive as an ETRM Business Analyst, you need a strong understanding of energy trading markets, business process analysis, and typically a degree in finance, IT, or a related field. Experience with ETRM systems such as Endur, Allegro, or Openlink, along with knowledge of SQL and data analysis tools, is highly valuable. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help bridge business and technical needs. These skills are crucial for ensuring effective system implementation, regulatory compliance, and optimized trading operations in a complex, fast-paced environment.

How does an ETRM Business Analyst typically collaborate with technical and trading teams during project implementation?

As an ETRM Business Analyst, you will regularly work with both technical teams (such as software developers and IT specialists) and trading teams to gather requirements, clarify business processes, and ensure that system solutions align with trading objectives. You’ll often act as a bridge, translating business needs into technical specifications, and participate in workshops, user acceptance testing, and ongoing project meetings. Strong communication skills and a solid understanding of energy trading workflows are essential for facilitating smooth collaboration and resolving any misunderstandings that may arise between stakeholders.
