Job description

As an Estimating Manager, you will be responsible for supervision and oversight of the Estimation Department of a Commercial Flooring Company, also estimating the entire projects design, including reviewing bid documents and specifications, creating take-offs, quantifying and qualifying material quantities for a precise and accurate bid package/proposal. To succeed in this position, you must be a self-starter and able to take initiative. The ability to solve problems, meet deadlines, and understand priorities is a must.
Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise and assure the quality and timeliness of all estimating and bidding activities
  • Review bid documents, examine plans and specifications to prepare a complete scope of work.
  • Supervise pre-construction/sales staff on preparing bids while quantifying and qualifying all material quantities.
  • Perform take-offs and prepare bid packages using estimating and bidding software
  • Communicate with internal and external sources, and be ready to work flexible hours to ensure bid submission deadlines are met, project budgets are prepared, and the operations team has all the data needed.
  • Receive requests for estimating and gather necessary information such as vendor quotes, plans, bidding manuals, specifications, addenda, revisions to jobs in progress, etc.
  • Research material requirements including finish goods, trims, accessories, installation methods.
  • Follow up with bids or prospects to close transactions
  • Provide superior customer service to clients and internal users to ensure satisfaction, return & referral
  • Attend any required project/sales meetings and any company-sponsored training sessions on selling strategies

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of experience in estimating construction projects
  • Strong ability to read construction documents, understand construction scopes and specification, and prepare professional bids is required
  • Knowledge of flooring and tile a must (carpet, hardwood, resilient and ceramic tile).
  • Ability to perform detailed and accurate material take-offs using the estimating software.
  • Strong work ethic and comfortability working within a team environment to achieve maximum collaboration and timely results.
  • High-level problem-solving skills along with the ability to locate potential problems and prepare and present multiple options and solutions to address these problems.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to contact general contractors and vendors for clarifications to plans and specifications.
