Requirements:

SUMMARY:

The Consulting Sales Engineer Specialist is responsible for advancing ESL Power Systemsโ€™ technical influence with consulting engineers, MEP firms, port authorities, and owner engineers by embedding electrical safety principles and correct, application specific compliance into project designs from the earliest stages, while positioning ESLโ€™s solutions as technically sound and appropriate options.

This role operates at the front end of the project lifecycle, engaging stakeholders prior to bids or submittals to shape specifications, system architecture, and safety philosophy in a way that improves project outcomes while positioning ESL as a trusted technical authority. The position serves as an Electrical Safety and Standards Subject Matter Expert (SME) for external engineering partners, focusing on education, influence, and risk reductionโ€”not transactional sales support.

The ideal candidate combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals, broad application exposure across multiple industries, and a demonstrated passion for electrical safety, with the ability to clearly articulate the value of complying to the correct standards for the intended application, not merely generic certification claims.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

โ€ข Serve as a trusted Electrical Safety and Compliance SME for consulting engineers, MEPs, port engineers, and owner-engineers.

โ€ข Partner with existing sales network to support positioning and influence.

โ€ข Promote electrical safety as a core design considerationโ€”supported by ESLโ€™s solutionsโ€”rather than an afterthought or compliance checkbox.

โ€ข Ensure electrical safety and appropriate, application-specific compliance are embedded into specifications, one-lines, and basis-of-design documents early in the project lifecycle.

โ€ข Lead technical webinars and lunch and learns.

โ€ข Educate consulting firms on the importance of correct compliance with applicable standards, including certification scope and limitations of generic claims such as โ€œUL Listedโ€ when the assembled system is not certified to the appropriate standard.

โ€ข Provide technical guidance on electrical safety concepts including, but not limited to:

โ€ข Safety interlocking philosophies

โ€ข Grounding and bonding strategies

โ€ข Fault monitoring and protection approaches

โ€ข Safe connection and disconnection of power systems

โ€ข Design tradeoffs that reduce operational and maintenance risk

โ€ข Influence specifications and system designs across a wide range of applications, including shore power, intermodal and reefer connections, emergency power interfaces, disconnect systems, and specialized power distribution equipment.

โ€ข Attend technical conferences and expand ESLโ€™s network and sphere of influence.

โ€ข Participate in relevant industry working groups, committees, and standards-development organizations to influence emerging electrical safety and application standards, represent ESL Power Systemsโ€™ engineering perspective, and stay current with evolving requirements.

โ€ข Build and maintain trusted working relationships with:

โ€ข Engineering consultants engaged in shipyard, port, and maritime infrastructure projects

โ€ข Navy, Coast Guard, and NOAA wharf enhancement designers

โ€ข MEP firms designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and critical facilities

โ€ข Translate technical and safety-driven design intent into clear guidance for internal Sales and Application Engineering teams.

โ€ข Provide feedback to leadership regarding emerging trends in electrical safety, standards interpretation, and consultant expectations.

โ€ข Develop and deliver technical presentations, training sessions, and educational content related to electrical safety, standards, and ESLโ€™s solutions.

โ€ข Write and publish white papers and technical articles.

โ€ข Assist the Marketing Team in developing technical presentations

โ€ข Represent ESL professionally and ethically, reinforcing the companyโ€™s commitment to engineering integrity, safety, and correct compliance.

Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

โ€ข Strong technical foundation in electrical power systems with demonstrated understanding of electrical safety principles.

โ€ข Experience working with published electrical codes and standards, with the ability to explain why specific standards matter for specific applications, not just that they exist.

โ€ข Proven ability to communicate complex technical and safety concepts clearly to consulting engineers and design professionals.

โ€ข Comfortable operating early in project lifecycles where information may be incomplete and design direction is still forming.

โ€ข Strong planning, prioritization, and time-management skills; proven ability to manage a complex travel calendar and schedule customer engagements 3โ€“6 months in advance.

โ€ข Demonstrated ability to proactively plan and coordinate technical engagementsโ€”including lunch-and-learns, seminars, and conference participationโ€”by working

ยท directly with consulting firms, MEPs, and sales representatives to secure meetings and align schedules 3โ€“6 months in advance.

ยท Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

ยท Willingness to travel 50%.

ยท Must possess a valid driverโ€™s license and the ability to operate a vehicle for routine travel.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

ยท Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering required.

ยท 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, application engineering, consulting engineering, or technical sales roles.

ยท Demonstrated exposure to multiple electrical applications across different industries.
