Graduate ESL Writing Consultant
Job Requirements:
Writing consultants play animportant role in writing education at Duquesne. They meet individually or insmall groups with students to help them with writing from all stages of theirwriting processes, from brainstorming to revision. Writing consultantsprovide advice and suggestions for a range of writing tasks and concerns, fromdeveloping thesis statements to citing and integrating sources. The WritingCenter offers a teaching, not a proofreading service. Our goal is to teachwriters how to improve rather than to edit for them. The ESL (English as a SecondLanguage) writing consultant is the "go to" consultant for non-native speakersof English, though also works with the full range of students who visit theWriting Center. Experience working with ESL writers is desirable but notrequired. Tutoring or teaching experience, particularly of writing, is likewisedesirable. Training is provided. In addition to an orientation, one hour everyother week is spent at professional development meetings that provide ongoingtraining.
The position currently pays $18/hour and is funded for 7-15 hours per week.
Applicants must be full-timestudents in a for-credit degree program and cannot be concurrently workinganother job at Duquesne. Hourly staff members use the time management softwareKronos UKG to log in and out at the beginning and end of shifts.
