Job description

Job Duties and Responsibilities

May change from year to year or during the year, subject to changes in the legislation, regulations, and policies governing the school meal programs, and as prescribed by TDA.

  • Provide training and technical assistance to Contracting Entities (CEs).
  • Maintain reporting information, CE files, and data according to TDA guidelines.
  • Participate in regional training in all areas of program operations for CNPs.
  • Collaborate with other regions to facilitate the implementation of statewide training.
  • Attend required TDA meetings.
  • Attend and participate in special committees and workgroups as directed by TDA.
  • Travel to CEs for site visits; minimum 50% of work hours.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive relevant knowledge and experience in institutional food service operations, management, business, and/or nutrition education.
  • Skill in time management.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to diverse groups.
  • Ability to adapt well to changing priorities and direction.
  • Ability to meet the needs of adult learners.
  • Ability to work with Child Nutrition Directors of various experiences.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate data and provide pertinent feedback.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective training skills in differentiation strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Institutional Management, Food Service, Business, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Science, Public Health, Education, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in the management of school or institutional food service operations preferred.

In lieu of a bachelor's degree, qualifications must meet USDA Professional Standards, to include:

  • Associate's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field; and at least one year of relevant school nutrition programs experience; or
  • High school diploma (or GED) and 5 years of relevant experience in school nutrition programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Child Nutrition Director.
  • Three years of training experience with adults.
