Department Overview
Engineering, Planning & Strategy will play a leading role in showing California and the world how PG&E will meet California's decarbonization and resilience goals while improving safety, affordability and reliability. The Large Load Project Management Team is responsible for delivering complex, high-capacity electric infrastructure projects that support major commercial and industrial customers. These projects often involve multi-phase transmission and distribution upgrades, regulatory compliance, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer timelines and strategic commitments.
Position Summary
This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
This position provides expert-level project management and leadership for Project Management's largest and most complex initiatives. These high-impact projects directly influence Business Unit financial performance, strategic objectives, and overall success.
Projects typically:
  • Span multiple years
  • Exceed $10 million in budget
  • Require significant risk management
  • Involve high complexity
  • May include formal partnering agreements with external firms

Under limited direction, the role is responsible for all aspects of project development and implementation, serving as the single point of contact for assigned projects. Assignments are highly visible, demand advanced project management skills, and often require specialized expertise in areas such as:
  • Electric transmission substation projects
  • Electric transmission line projects

This is a hybrid position, with work split between your remote office and your assigned location based on business needs. The assigned location will be within the PG&E Bay Area-Central Coast region.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
The salary range is:
CA Minimum, $173,856
CA Maximum, $213,624
Job Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Establishes unit cost and monitors progress/accomplishment
  • Identifies and implements non-traditional processes to implement the project that reduces cost and/or schedule.

Communication-Teamwork
  • Communicate regularly with PG&E Officers, managers, critical project partners and high-level public sector contacts.

Leadership
  • Mentors and provide guidance to less tenured project managers.

Knowledge / Abilities
  • Proven advanced project management skills.
  • Able to develop complex schedules with multiple dependencies.
  • Understanding of integrated cost and schedule management.
  • Strategic and business acumen skills.
  • Superior ability to interface with and across supporting organizations and conduct formal presentations to officers.
  • Ability to mentor other PMs
  • Mastery of the Associate, Journey level and Senior Project Management duties and demonstrated knowledge, leadership, and ability to perform the job duties of the Sr Consulting Project Manager

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or its equivalent in education and experience
  • 13 years of PG&E (14 years outside) experience in project management, project controls, engineering, and/or construction
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Desired:
  • Electrical Engineering Degree for the Substation projects and Civil Engineering for Transmission line projects
  • Knowledge of and experience with electric substations, and transmission line projects
  • Fluent in the use of Project Management tools and current company tools, such as SAP Financials and Work Management modules and Microsoft Project Scheduling Software
