What is ERP software?

ERP software, or Enterprise Resource Planning software, is a type of business management tool that integrates various core processes within an organization, such as finance, human resources, supply chain, manufacturing, and sales. By consolidating data and workflows into a single system, ERP software helps improve efficiency, data accuracy, and decision-making. Companies use ERP solutions to streamline operations, reduce manual work, and gain real-time insights across different departments. Modern ERP systems can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud, offering scalability and flexibility for businesses of all sizes.

What are the typical collaboration points between an ERP software specialist and other departments within an organization?

ERP Software Specialists frequently collaborate with various departments such as finance, human resources, and operations to ensure the ERP system aligns with business processes and requirements. They often act as a bridge between technical IT teams and non-technical users, gathering feedback, troubleshooting issues, and supporting system upgrades or new feature rollouts. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for coordinating training sessions, managing user expectations, and facilitating smooth workflows across teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ERP software specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ERP Software Specialist, you need expertise in enterprise resource planning systems, business process analysis, and a background in IT or business administration. Familiarity with leading ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics, as well as certifications like SAP Certified Application Associate or Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Fundamentals, are highly valued. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help facilitate user training and cross-functional collaboration. These skills are crucial for ensuring efficient system implementation, integration, and ongoing support, ultimately optimizing organizational workflows.

Responsibilities

As a Process Owner, Operations, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Collaborate with operational subject experts from relevant business functions to define, maintain, and advocate for clear, practical, and enterprise-aligned processes that are understood and adopted by relevant business functions across the AS organization.
  • Partner actively with peer Process Owners to manage end-to-end process interdependencies, align standards, resolve cross-functional issues, and promote coherent enterprise process governance.
  • Establish and facilitate process governance routines, decision rights, issue resolution paths, and continuous improvement backlogs.
  • Establish solid relationships and proactive engagement with relevant business functions across divisions, regions, and Global Services to support process ownership, adoption, issue resolution, and sustained process advocacy.
  • Partner with business leaders, SMEs, IT, data owners, change management, and implementation partners to ensure future-state processes are practical, adopted, and sustainable.
  • Approve process documentation, requirements, controls, role definitions, and key design decisions impacting the assigned process domain.
  • Define process KPIs, establish baselines, monitor performance, and drive corrective actions where process outcomes fall short of targets.
  • Support ERP transformation, integration design, testing, training, cutover, hypercare, and transition to business-as-usual governance.
  • Promote standardization while ensuring justified local or divisional requirements are assessed, governed, and documented.
  • Act as the senior business representative and decision-maker for assigned process domains within the SAP S/4HANA ERP program.
  • Drive global process standardization and future-state business design across divisions, functions, and regions
Key Working Relationships

  • Relevant business functions across the AS organization, with emphasis on sustained engagement, solid working relationships, trust-based collaboration, and active process advocacy.
  • Peer Process Owners responsible for adjacent and interdependent processes, with emphasis on shared standards, integrated decision-making, and end-to-end process performance.
  • ERP programme leadership, solution architects, data owners, integration leads, testing leads, and change management teams.
  • Implementation partners and service providers supporting process design, deployment, and stabilization.
Qualifications
