Job description
The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW works to increase visibility of socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. CHECW's work focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial determinants, and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well-being of New Yorkers.
Reporting into the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, the Provider Engagement Coordinator will support the office's mission to bridge public health and healthcare (BPHH) in New York City by: 1) Aligning and strengthening the agency's healthcare provider engagement and communication strategies and mechanisms, and to ensure healthcare provider information is developed and disseminated centering evidence-based science, health equity, and social justice; and by 2) Designing, developing and piloting innovative initiatives through collaborations with multidisciplinary healthcare partners, regular convening of stakeholders, and application of health equity frameworks. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer seeks to hire a Provider Engagement Coordinator.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Research, develop, implement, and strategize for enhanced engagement with diverse health care providers across New York City, including primary care clinicians, specialty care clinicians, and healers (acupuncture, naturopathy, etc.)
- Research and define key performance indicators (KPIs; e.g., open rates, click-through rates) for planned campaigns and ad-hoc communications such as Health Alert Network advisories, Dear Colleague Letters, and City Health Information Bulletin
o Review and compile success criteria and key performance indicators to disseminate among agency leadership and relevant divisional liaisons on a monthly basis
- Coordinate and streamline agency-wide provider communications through ad-hoc cross-divisional touch-bases
o Coordinate a tri-annual Provider Engagement Cross-Divisional Huddle, comprised of divisional representatives to spotlight provider communications & engagement efforts, discuss barriers, facilitators, updates, etc.
o Annually update agency-wide Provider Steward Directory, conducting outreach to the listed stewards who oversee their respective provider communications
o Provide recommendations across divisions on provider outreach, connect appropriate agency staff who maintain provider lists
- Recommend and test communication strategies to increase provider engagement (e.g. alternative mechanisms including text messaging via Mobile Commons, content for provider-focused social media, etc.)
- Research and develop a thorough understanding of the provider population, across various strata including provider specialties and populations served
- Serve as Salesforce-Public Health Partners Connect Liaison for the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, managing mass email communications
o Attend monthly governance meetings hosted by COO/Strategic Data Initiatives Unit ,
o Provide technical assistance and partner with internal teams on mass communications channels; and strategize framing and messaging for providers
- Provide management and oversight to a Chief Medical Officer social media account in coordination with Agency and Division communications staff
- Develop, implement, and maintain project management systems to track provider engagement workstreams within the Chief Medical Officer's team and in partnership with other Agency staff working on coordinated strategies
- Liaise with consultants and other external experts, as appropriate, in refining and developing strategies
- Research peer-reviewed and gray literature for best practices and tools appropriate for use or application in provider engagement strategies
- Manage up to two staff working on provider engagement workstreams
ICS Coordinator for Provider Engagement ERG
- Serve as Incident Command System (ICS) coordinator for the Emergency Response Group, Provider Communications & Engagement, overseeing emergency preparedness efforts for health communications and provider engagement during emergency response activations
o Work with ERG leadership to develop, maintain, enhance ERG staffing and preparedness activities
o Convene ERG leadership on a bi-monthly basis
o Attend monthly ICS Coordinator meetings convened by OEPR, which is a forum for ERGs to discuss ICS policies/plans, priority projects, guidance, challenges
o Share information, updates, and guidance from OEPR with ERG leadership to facilitate awareness and inform ERG development
o Maintaining on-call schedule and updating "Responder Scheduler" app monthly.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Master's degree in a related area (MPH, MSW, MSc, etc.)
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of communication theory and equity frameworks preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information.
- Experience working with clinical or health care stakeholders.
- Experience with communications and external affairs.
- Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities, along with a demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.)
- Clinical background a plus but not required

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
