Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Chief of Staff forDiversity and Equity serves as a member of the President's Cabinetand provides strategic leadership to advance the College'scommitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).The position collaborates with academic and administrative leadersto develop, implement, and assess policies, practices, andinitiatives that promote access, inclusion, student success, andinstitutional excellence.

The Chief of Staff for Diversity and Equity works to establish andsustain responsive institutional structures and practices thatsupport all members of the MCLA community, with particular emphasison students and communities that have been historically underservedor excluded from higher education. The position partners withcollege leadership, faculty, staff, and shared governance bodies toensure that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging areembedded in institutional planning, decision-making, and dailyoperations. In addition, the role supports efforts to advanceequitable access and success across academic programs andhigh-impact educational practices while fostering a campus culturegrounded in dignity, mutual respect, and belonging.

Reports directly to thePresident.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position does not provide directpersonnel supervision. The incumbent works collaboratively withfaculty, staff, administrators, and campus committees across alldivisions and serves as a ex-officio member of the Committee onDiversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. The position is housedwithin the President's Office.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Coordinate and facilitate cross-campus initiatives that advancethe College's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, andbelonging.
  2. Partner with the President's Chief of Staff to support theCabinet and Leadership Team in advancing institution-wide equitygoals through strategic planning, communication, collaboration, andteam development.
  3. Collaborate with offices across campus to develop, implement,and assess training and professional development programs thatstrengthen competencies related to equity, inclusion, and belongingand enhance effectiveness in working across differences and withdiverse populations.
  4. Work with Human Resources and executive leadership to sustainequitable recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention practicesthat support the development of a workforce reflective of andresponsive to the College's student population.
  5. Partner with campus-wide committees, including but not limitedto Strategic Planning, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, andBelonging Committee, and the Racial Equity and Justice Institute,to develop, implement, and assess initiatives that advanceinstitutional equity and belonging and align with accreditationstandards, strategic priorities, and the mission of MCLA.
  6. Review and assess institutional policies, programs, practices,services, and resources through a lens of access, equity,engagement, student success, and belonging.
  7. Analyze and leverage institutional data and assessment tools,including the Campus Climate Survey and NSSE, to informdecision-making and improve enrollment, persistence, engagement,and graduation outcomes for all students, particularly thosehistorically excluded from higher education.
  8. Identify policies, practices, and conditions that impede thecreation of an inclusive and equitable campus environment and workcollaboratively, under the President's guidance, to develop andimplement solutions.
  9. Lead campus-wide programs, initiatives, and communications thatfoster an inclusive and welcoming community by collaborating withfaculty and staff on activities such as MCLA's Day of Dialogue,Lavender Lecture Series, Summit for Racial Equity, and otherrelated programs.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the President in supportofinstitutional priorities related to diversity, equity, inclusion,belonging, and student success.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Five to ten years of progressively responsible leadershipexperience in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within higher education, nonprofit organizations,government agencies, or other public-serving institutions.
  3. Demonstrated success leading organization-wide DEIBinitiatives, programs, and strategic efforts.
  4. Demonstrated experience using data and assessment results toinform decision-making and drive organizational improvement.
  5. Demonstrated experience facilitating dialogue, workshops,training, or educational programs in higher education or comparablesettings.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively, inclusively, andcollaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds,identities, perspectives, and experiences.
  7. Experience teaching, training, coaching, or facilitatinglearning and skill development, preferably in a college oruniversity setting.
  8. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, applycritical thinking, and develop practical solutions to institutionalchallenges.
  9. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective workingrelationships across diverse constituencies.
  10. Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication,project management, and organizational effectiveness.
  11. Demonstrated fiscal stewardship, budget management experience,and sound resource allocation practices.
  12. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercisesound professional judgment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Earned doctorate or other terminal degree from an accreditedinstitution.
  2. Ten or more years of relevant leadership experience.
  3. Current and relevant certifications, training, or professionaldevelopment in areas such as cultural competency, restorativepractices, conflict resolution, organizational change management,or related disciplines that support inclusive and equitablepost-secondary educational environments.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, permanent, benefitted position starting in January 2027. There is some flexibility with the start date. Salaryfor this position is $115,000-$125,000 per year.
