We currently have an opening for Equipment Setup Technician in our Gowanda Electronics, located in Gowanda, NY. This position is essential for ensuring production machinery is correctly configured, adjusted, and verified for new jobs, part numbers, and product families. The role minimizes equipment downtime, improves workflow efficiency, and supports smooth job transitions throughout the manufacturing process.

The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail‑oriented, highly organized, and skilled at performing equipment setups in a fast‑paced production environment.

Details of the Role:

The position of Equipment Setup Technician is responsible for preparing, adjusting, configuring, and verifying production equipment in accordance with job specifications. Daily responsibilities include machine setup, tooling and fixture installation, equipment resets, first‑piece checks, and documentation updates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform equipment setups, adjustments, and changeovers for new production jobs or part numbers.
  • Install tooling, fixtures, jigs, machine components, or specialized work‑holding devices required for each setup.
  • Review setup sheets, job travelers, work instructions, and production specifications to ensure accurate configuration.
  • Verify machine alignment, tooling placement, and job parameters prior to releasing equipment to operators.
  • Conduct first‑piece checks in collaboration with Production or Quality personnel.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust setup‑related issues to optimize performance and reduce downtime.
  • Clean, reset, and prepare machinery between production runs.
  • Update setup documentation, parameters, tooling records, or visual aids when changes occur.
  • Work closely with Production Operators to ensure a smooth handoff and understanding of the setup process.
  • Maintain tools, fixtures, equipment, and workstations in an organized and safe condition.
  • Communicate setup difficulties, equipment concerns, or documentation inconsistencies to Production, Engineering, or Maintenance.
  • Follow all safety, lockout/tagout, and operational procedures.
  • May be required to perform assembly or production tasks during downtime.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support production.

Qualifying Attributes and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in equipment setup, machine operation, or manufacturing changeovers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of production machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret setup sheets, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, basic power tools, measurement devices, and alignment tools.
  • Knowledge of part tolerances, inspection techniques, and first‑piece validation.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills and the ability to make precise mechanical adjustments.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
  • Adequate vision for part inspection, alignment, and reading documentation.
  • Ability to safely work around production machinery and equipment.
