Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Position Summary
The Thin Films Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving semiconductor manufacturing equipment within the Thin Films area. This role supports high-volume production by executing preventive and corrective maintenance, recovering equipment from faults, and partnering with engineering teams to drive equipment reliability, uptime, and process stability.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical professional who enjoys solving complex equipment issues, working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and continuously learning new technologies and equipment platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) activities on Thin Films deposition equipment in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
- Execute corrective maintenance (CM) activities to restore equipment to production safely and efficiently.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, RF, gas delivery, robotics, and automation systems.
- Respond to equipment faults and production-impacting issues while minimizing downtime.
- Perform equipment startups, recoveries, qualifications, and return-to-production activities following maintenance events.
- Maintain equipment performance while ensuring compliance to maintenance specifications and quality standards.
- Utilize structured troubleshooting methodologies and root cause analysis techniques to identify equipment failures.
- Analyze tool data, alarm histories, system logs, and equipment trends to prevent repeat failures.
- Escalate complex issues appropriately while providing detailed failure analysis and repair documentation.
- Support long-term corrective actions that improve tool reliability and reduce recurring issues.
- Monitor equipment health and take proactive action to prevent production interruptions.
- Work directly with operators, process technicians, maintenance engineers, and equipment engineers to address manufacturing issues.
- Support shift operations during tool recoveries, process interruptions, new tool installations, and engineering evaluations.
- Help maintain workstation performance targets for availability, throughput, and quality.
- Adhere to all Micron safety policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hazardous energy control, chemical safety, and cleanroom protocols.
- Conduct all work using approved procedures, training requirements, and risk assessments.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment risks, and process concerns.
- Ensure accurate maintenance documentation and compliance with manufacturing standards.
- Participate in TPM, reliability improvement, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Support implementation of equipment modifications and engineering change activities.
- Assist in developing and improving maintenance procedures, checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
- Contribute ideas that improve safety, equipment uptime, maintenance efficiency, and overall manufacturing performance.
- Utilize digital manufacturing tools, dashboards, and automated reporting systems to support equipment monitoring and maintenance effectiveness.
- Leverage AI-enabled tools and data analytics platforms to accelerate troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and decision making.
- Support adoption of emerging digital solutions that improve technician productivity, maintenance quality, and equipment reliability.
- Actively contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technology adoption within the Thin Films organization.
- Associate degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, Military Technical Training, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on technical troubleshooting experience in manufacturing, industrial maintenance, semiconductor, military, aerospace, automotive, or related industries.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, schematics, procedures, and maintenance documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and safely lift up to 40 pounds.
- Semiconductor equipment maintenance experience.
- Experience with CVD, PECVD, PVD, ALD, or plasma processing equipment.
- Knowledge of vacuum systems, pumps, RF systems, gas delivery systems, robotics, wafer handling systems, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with Applied Materials, Lam Research, TEL, Canon Anelva, ULVAC, or similar semiconductor equipment platforms.
- Familiarity with SPC, FDC, Tableau, equipment monitoring systems, and manufacturing data analysis.
- Military electronics, avionics, nuclear, or maintenance experience.
Successful technicians in this role will:
- Maintain strong safety performance and procedural compliance.
- Consistently execute high-quality preventive maintenance.
- Demonstrate effective troubleshooting and equipment recovery capability.
- Improve tool uptime and operational performance.
- Develop proficiency across multiple Thin Films equipment platforms.
- Positively influence team performance, equipment reliability, and manufacturing results.
You'll play a direct role in supporting advanced semiconductor manufacturing while working on highly automated, leading-edge equipment. This position provides extensive technical growth opportunities, vendor training exposure, and a defined path toward Senior Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Equipment Engineer, or Shift Lead roles.
