Title: Construction Manager

The Site Manager will be responsible for overseeing site activities and managing engineers, consultants, contractors, and equipment suppliers through the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning efforts of the company's projects, which include Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and/or Photovoltaic (PV) + BESS projects. Responsibilities will also include coordinating, planning, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders to identify, track, and progress project deliverables, as well as assisting the team with ensuring projects meet the required scope, schedule, and budget targets. This role reports directly to the VP of EPC.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary on-site Owner's representative through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities
  • Responsible for on-site safety during construction and commissioning and coordinate with the East Point safety team to create, manage and enforce safety procedures throughout all site execution activities, including training of staff, contractors, visitors, and first responders
  • Manage payment milestones and contract deliverables to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of executed contracts
  • Anticipate and resolve contract interpretation issues, including defense of change order requests as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain reports that monitor contract status, schedule compliance, and overall Contractor performance
  • Serve as Construction Manager during the initial and mid stages, and as Commissioning Manager during the final stages, of the project, overseeing the pre-construction, mobilization, site prep and construction phases through the pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up phases of BESS and/or PV + BESS systems
  • Develop, implement, track, administer, and manage contracts for construction projects (including EPC, equipment procurement, environmental, O&M, Owner's representative, etc.)
  • Manage the interface with vendors including interconnects with the utility power grid provider and outage planning
  • Maintain detailed logs, track construction & testing activities, and manage punch lists for unresolved issues through completion/corrective actions
  • Inspect system components, and review/verify all commissioning documentation, including test reports and certification of system performance, prior to handover to the Asset Management team
  • Support compilation and administration of warranty claims, as requested by Asset Management team
  • Depending on the contract structure(s), this role may:
  • Establish technical and quality requirements for safety and non-safety materials and services
  • Lead and manage processes and resources for sourcing, logistics, or materials management efforts
  • Manage material control functions including warehousing, shop, reclamation activities, inventory control, etc.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge coordinating processes and work activities, providing leadership in a team environment, and achieving results by influencing others
  • Demonstrated knowledge in contract development, administration, and execution, with knowledge of contract terminology, contract cost, accounting principles, and risk management tools for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services or related contracts
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with site construction processes, safety, and environmental compliance, and resolution of change orders
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in the use of a computer and Microsoft applications required, including the ability to operate common database software, prepare Excel spreadsheets, and utilize project management applications

Education & Experience:

  • 4-year university/college degree; degree in Construction Management or Engineering (Electrical or I&C), or equivalent, relevant professional experience
  • 4+ years of engineering and/or construction-related experience to lead construction efforts on new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and/or Photovoltaic (PV) + BESS projects
  • Experience managing projects or managing multi-functional teams in a matrix environment
  • Minimum of OSHA 30 training and strong environmental awareness

Travel & Time Commitment:

  • This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Standard office hours are from 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM EST. Standard project site work hours are 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The demands of projects may require work outside of these stated hours.

  • Travel: up to 100%

Location:

Assignment to project sites is required for this position. When not on-site assignment, this will be a remote position with regular visits to the East Point Energy office in Charlottesville, VA.
