SUPERVISOR - FIBERGLASS SHOP



Position Overview


The Fiberglass Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all operations within the fiberglass shop and repairs within the manufacturing building. This role ensures that production schedules are met, quality standards are upheld, and safety protocols are followed. The Fiberglass Shop Supervisor will lead a team of Fiberglass Technicians, coordinate resources, and collaborate with other departments to achieve company goals.


Reports To: Operations Manager


Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage, lead, and train a team of fiberglass technicians, creating a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Assign tasks and monitor performance to ensure compliance with production schedules and quality standards.
  • Regularly communicate goals, expectations, and updates.
  • Plan and organize daily operations, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation.
  • Monitor production processes to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to address design changes or quality concerns.
  • Enforce adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards, including OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, inventory, and employee performance.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of fiberglass fabrication and composite manufacturing processes.
  • Thorough understanding of hand layup, vacuum bagging, vacuum infusion, structural bonding, and composite repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge of fiberglass, carbon fiber, foam core, honeycomb, and other composite materials.
  • Familiarity with polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resin systems, including catalyst ratios and cure requirements.
  • Knowledge of composite quality standards, inspection techniques, and defect identification.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in fiberglass fabrication techniques and tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and safety regulations in manufacturing.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical degree or certification in manufacturing or composites preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiberglass fabrication, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in an aircraft manufacturing environment is desirable.
