Electrical Design Engineer (Switchgear)

ProSource Industries is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer – Switchgear to design custom low-voltage switchgear and power distribution equipment for OEM and industrial applications. This role develops electrical designs and engineering documentation that meet customer specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. 

The ideal candidate is an experienced electrical design professional with a strong background in low-voltage power distribution equipment, switchgear design, and engineering documentation within a manufacturing environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop custom low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, and power distribution equipment based on customer
  • Create electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and other engineering documentation.
  • Develop Bills of Material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and production documentation to support manufacturing.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable UL, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, and customer requirements.
  • Select electrical components and develop practical, manufacturable solutions that meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, and product implementation.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and design records.
  • Participate in product improvements, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on industry standards, technologies, and best practices related to electrical power distribution equipment.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.    
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience designing low-voltage switchgear, switchboards, control panels, or power distribution equipment.
  • Experience interpreting customer specifications and translating requirements into manufacturing-ready engineering packages.
  • Knowledge of UL 891, National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI, IEEE, and NEMA standards.    
  • Experience developing Bills of Material (BOMs), electrical schematics, panel layouts, and manufacturing documentation.    
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems, three-phase power, and industrial electrical equipment.       
  • Experience designing custom-engineered switchgear for OEM or contract manufacturing environments.       
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as JobBOSS, Epicor, SAP, or similar manufacturing software.
  • Experience working directly with Manufacturing and Production teams to support fabrication and assembly.
  • Knowledge of busbar design, short-circuit ratings, arc flash considerations, and protective coordination.
