Position Summary... What you'll do...Job Summary: Join Walmart’s Cassandra Platform team to design, operate, and continuously improve one of the largest distributed database environments in the world. This role combines production ownership with hands-on engineering focused on automation, reliability, and AI-driven efficiency. What you'll do:
  • Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager, Cassandra Platform
  • Design and build automation to manage provisioning, scaling, upgrades, decommissions, and health monitoring of Cassandra clusters
  • Reduce repetitive operational work by developing internal tools and self-service capabilities
  • Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across a large-scale distributed database footprint
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve diagnostics, alert quality, and engineering productivity
What you'll bring:
  • Experience building backend or platform software using Java, Python, Ruby, and shell scripting
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems in production environments
