Office of People Operations · Nursing Division

Registered Nurse (RN) — PRN

Per Diem · All Shifts · Continuous Recruitment

Nursing Non-Exempt · PRN Washington, DC

Continuous Recruitment — This posting remains open on a rolling basis to build our PRN RN pipeline.

At Knollwood, we serve those who served. Our residents are veterans, military spouses, and Gold Star family members who have carried the weight of service and sacrifice. Every role here is a chance to honor that legacy through work that genuinely matters. Our nursing team is the heartbeat of this mission. As a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) here, you work alongside a five-star-rated team in a community that values your expertise, respects your schedule, and trusts you to deliver excellent care every time you walk through the door.

About PRN at Knollwood

A PRN (pro re nata — “as needed”) RN at Knollwood is a critical part of our care delivery model. You are not a temporary fill — you are a vetted member of our extended nursing team. PRN staff are held to the same clinical and professional standards as our full-time RN staff. In return, you get schedule flexibility and the option to transition to a regular position when one aligns with your goals.

A PRN RN must maintain a minimum availability commitment to remain active in our pool. You will be contacted for shifts by unit charge staff based on census and scheduling needs.

About the Role

As a PRN RN, you will provide direct resident care, administer medications, and serve as the clinical lead on your assigned shift. You will function within an interdisciplinary team that includes LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary staff, and you will report to the Director of Nursing or designee. This is a resident-facing, charge-eligible role with direct impact on care quality, family trust, and regulatory standing.

What You Will Do
  • Conduct health assessments and update individualized resident care plans to reflect current clinical status
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately per physician orders and document in MatrixCare EHR
  • Monitor resident conditions continuously and escalate changes in status to the charge team and attending physician
  • Serve as clinical lead or charge nurse on assigned shift, supervising LPN and CNA staff as needed
  • Engage families as partners in care, providing timely updates and education on health status and care transitions
  • Participate in care conferences and support advance care planning conversations
  • Maintain full compliance with CMS documentation standards, HIPAA, and DC DOH infection control protocols
  • Respond to and lead emergency clinical situations, including code response and evacuation procedures
  • Complete incident reporting within required timeframes and participate in quality improvement initiatives
What We Are Looking For

Required

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the District of Columbia, in good standing
  • Current BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (MatrixCare, PCC, Epic, or Cerner)
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and family engagement skills

Preferred

  • Experience in a CCRC, Life Plan Community, or five-star-rated SNF
  • Charge nurse or supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with MDS process and CMS Quality Measures
  • Bilingual communication skills
PRN Scheduling and Pay

Pay Rate Depending Upon Experience

  • $49.00 – $55.50 per hour with differential

Availability Required

  • Minimum 2 shifts per month; day, evening, and overnight shifts available; weekend availability expected
  • Access to Great Place to Work certified culture and campus amenities
  • Free on-site parking
  • Path to regular full-time or part-time employment for high-performing PRN staff
  • Consideration for shift differential pay per applicable policy
