Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Leads the development, optimization, and support of the Epic EHR platform and other applications within an integrated, enterprise environment. Ensures reliable, secure, and scalable Epic functionality aligned with organizational goals. Oversees system build, configuration, testing, upgrades, and release cycles using Epic-specific tools and frameworks (e.g., Sherlock, Nova, Orion). Guides analysts in workload planning, demand management, and performance development while maintaining efficient, stable EHR operations. Works closely with operational leaders to set priorities, resolve barriers, and support clinical and operational workflows across a single-platform environment. Provides functional leadership, reinforces best practices for Epic design and build, and ensures adherence to organizational standards. Supports advanced troubleshooting and issue analysis, implementing improvements that enhance reliability, reduce risk, and ensure a consistent user experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Guide teams in supporting, optimizing, and maintaining Epic and other applications, ensuring build quality and workflow alignment across clinical and operational domains.
  • Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of Epic enhancements and upgrades, ensuring adherence to Epic foundation standards while ensuring alignment with IS&T and operational priorities.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to resolve operational issues, support advanced root cause analysis, and implement targeted improvements that strengthen system reliability and reduce risk. Utilize Epic vendor tools (e.g., Sherlock logs, Nova upgrade review tools, and Orion project management solution) to coordinate efforts.
  • Influence technical direction by guiding decisions on tools, design approaches, and methodologies, ensuring alignment with IS&T and operational priorities while supporting tactical planning and aligning work to broader strategic plans.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to analysts, reviewing designs for scalability, security, and maintainability and reinforcing best practices, including Epic's, across application and integration efforts.
  • Establish and maintain standards for integration design, documentation, and lifecycle management, ensuring consistency with evolving technologies and organizational priorities. Oversee vendor management, implementations, and maintenance processes, ensuring solutions meet performance, budget, and operational expectations.

  • ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT: Establishes and works to implement key elements of tactical and operational plans with measurable contribution towards the achievement of results of the job area or completion of a project. Makes significant decisions on what their team of responsibility focuses on or executes as directed. Focus is on short-term operational plans (e.g., 1 year or less). Develops new products, processes, standards or operational plans in support of the job area strategy. May have budget or P&L accountability for area of responsibility, or manage resources or elements of the budget.
  • INNOVATION & COMPLEXITY: Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of job area. May also demonstrate technical innovation in supporting business objectives. Problems and issues faced are numerous and typically undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Problems are difficult and moderately complex. Problems typically impact multiple job areas or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues. Executes on moderately complex tasks to enhance simplicity and standardization across Jefferson.
  • COMMUNICATION & INFLUENCE: Communicates with parties within and outside of own job area, which may include external customers or vendors. Requires the ability to influence others outside of own job area on policies, practices and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education - Required
  • High School Diploma/GED

Education - Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related Healthcare or
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related Healthcare

Experience - Required
  • 3 years Leadership experience, either through direct supervision of staff or equivalent responsibility in project management, team or operational leadership roles or
  • 3 years Experience in Epic applications development, support, and maintenance, including hands-on participation in the application lifecycle (design, build, testing, implementation, and ongoing support) or
  • 4 years progressive experience in Information Services, or a combination of Information Services and direct healthcare industry experience.

Experience - Preferred
  • 5 years direct leadership responsibilities and
  • 5 years Epic applications support and
  • 7 years progressive experience in healthcare delivery Information Services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Required
  • Experience working within Epic-based large hospital or integrated delivery networks (IDNs) and/or deep understanding of clinical or healthcare operations.
  • Program and large scale project management and upgrade facilitation experience.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement integrated systems architecture and associated standards.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Preferred
  • Experience in Solutions Architecture including the ability to connect and align disparate clinical systems, creating cohesive solutions that support the patient journey and simplify complex clinical workflows while remaining aligned with organizational standards and long term plans.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to manage application portfolios and Epic roadmaps, support enterprise wide application rationalization, and contribute to budget planning and forecasting.
  • Skilled in clear business and technical writing, including preparation of SBARs, RCAs, and other structured decision support documents.
  • Multiple certifications and proficiency badges.
