The Regional MDS Consultant is responsible for overseeing the MDS process across multiple healthcare facilities within a designated region. This position ensures that MDS assessments and care planning are conducted according to regulatory standards and best practices. The MDS Consultant Nurse provides guidance, training, and support to facility-based MDS nurses and staff, helping them maintain accurate and timely documentation, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and improve patient care outcomes.

Regional MDS Consultant RN Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Offer support and guidance to facility-based MDS Coordinators, nursing staff, and leadership teams to improve the accuracy and quality of MDS documentation and care plans.
  • Work closely with the regional leadership, clinical teams, and other healthcare professionals to promote high-quality care and regulatory compliance across all facilities.
  • Implement standards of RAI process through the formulation of policies and procedures
  • Review MDS data for trends, errors, and discrepancies, preparing reports for facility leadership and regional management. Assist with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
  • Provide ongoing education and training for facility staff on MDS processes, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Works through local/state/federal agencies, company, and external resources to facilitate clinical competency.
  • Conduct periodic audits of MDS assessments and documentation to ensure compliance with all regulations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Spreads performance improvement initiatives
  • Assist with survey management, as assigned.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Regional MDS Consultant RN Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both in writing and in-person.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the region.
  • Must be able to make independent decisions and to take directive action when the circumstances warrant.

Regional MDS Consultant RN Education and Experience:
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Specific training in gerontological nursing preferred.
  • Experience as a MDS Nurse gained in a Skilled Nursing Facility required.
  • Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Registered Nurse.

Physical Requirements:
  • Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, find hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
  • Traveling to multiple facilities in Illinois when needed.
