JOB SUMMARY
This role serves as a key leader within the Laboratory Information Systems team and is responsible for supporting a broad spectrum of laboratory testing domains, including Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services/Blood Product Management, Coagulation, Pathology, Cytogenetics, Cytology, Flow Cytometry, Histology/IHC, HLA, Molecular Diagnostics, Neuropathology, NGS, Urinalysis, and Microbiology. The position also provides oversight for third party laboratory applications that support clinical diagnostic workflows across multiple UTSW service lines. In addition to technical responsibilities, this role leads project execution using Agile methodology and the Scrum framework, ensuring timely delivery of LIS related initiatives and system enhancements. This position plays a critical role in mentoring and supporting junior analysts and contributes to team development, collaborative problem solving, and informed decision making, strengthening the overall performance and capability of the LIS team.

This role spans multiple locations, including the Clements University Hospital Laboratory and satellite facilities throughout the DFW metroplex. The analyst will primarily support performing laboratory departments responsible for clinical diagnostic testing and will also assist with procedure updates and build activities within Epic Beaker.  The analyst will additionally provide secondary support for the alternate Epic Beaker module (AP or CP, depending on primary discipline) and for third party laboratory applications such as middleware and instrument management systems. Experience with Epic Beaker CP, Epic Beaker AP, and middleware/instrument management software along with clinical laboratory experience is highly desirable. Certification in any Epic clinical application will also be considered.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Project management and coordination of LIS initiatives
    Governance and pre governance preparation, including stakeholder engagement
    Leading Agile/Scrum execution for LIS deliverables
    Reviewing and authoring HSIR and LIS policies
    Driving quality improvement initiatives
    Supporting onboarding and training of new LIS team members
    Contributing to LIS documentation (workflows, tip sheets, troubleshooting guides)
    Serving as a liaison for accreditation activities related to LIS system management
    Other duties as assigned by LIS leadership

JOB DUTIES

  • Manages projects and serves as primary customer contact. Defines and maintains project plan and schedules. Monitors compliance with definitions of project scope, timelines, and deliverables. Provides regular project status reports to customer and internal management. Assists business analysts of lower grade to coordinate projects.
  • Collects, interprets and documents specifications required to develop new and revise existing software applications. Develops and implements operational plans for new and existing business computer applications. Participates in development of project proposals for customers.
  • Coordinates testing of new applications and changes to existing applications to ensure integrity and quality of data while providing and/or assisting in training of system users. Defines and develops test scenarios. Documents and tracks status of application errors and related issues in problem log. Assist programmers and business analysts of lower grade in analyzing and resolving problems.
  • Compiles complete, concise, and comprehensive policies and operation procedures to assist in communicating issues to applicable management staff.
  • Develops new system administrative procedures required utilizing new functionality resulting from system changes.
  • Assists in developing and implementing business strategies in departments to improve operational processing and productivity.
  • Monitors development of specifications and establishes priorities for accomplishing design and testing of various projects.
  • Reviews, develops, recommends, and implements activities, programs or functions as assigned.
  • Maintains and tracks accounts assigned to projects or programs. Develops and maintains project plans. Provides project status reports.
  • Records time spent on projects to meet cost-recovery requirements.
  • May supervise lower level analysts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
