As an Epic analyst, your duties include working with users to assess needs, monitoring data, implementing system updates, and analyzing the system for performance issues. You use problem-solving skills to address any technical concerns, ensuring that the software, which the other hospital workers rely on to care for patients, is functioning at its best. You must become certified in the software, following the certification program laid out by Epic.

Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Clinical Informatics Analyst serves as a strategic partner to hospital C-suite leadership, clinical executives, and IT leadership, leading the design, build, and optimization of EHR clinical workflows that drive operational performance, revenue integrity, and patient care delivery. This role owns the end-to-end lifecycle of clinical workflow transformation - from executive-level discovery and current-state analysis through future-state design, build, configuration, and go-live adoption - with a primary emphasis on building and optimizing clinical workflows across laboratory (LIS), radiology (RIS/PACS), revenue cycle, and order management domains.

Operating at the intersection of clinical operations, technology, and executive strategy, the Senior Clinical Informatics Analyst engages directly with department leaders to translate organizational priorities into actionable, technology-enabled clinical solutions. This role leads recurring working sessions with clinical stakeholders, prioritizes and escalates issues with EHR vendors and mentors junior informatics and EHR analyst staff. The Senior Clinical Informatics Analyst reports to the Director of Healthcare IT and is accountable for the clinical workflow outcomes of assigned hospital client

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead executive-level discovery sessions with hospital leadership, clinical department heads, and IT leadership to identify strategic operational priorities, clinical workflow gaps, and technology-enabled improvement opportunities.
  • Design and build optimized clinical workflows across the EHR with a primary focus on order entry, order sets, result reporting, clinical documentation, care coordination, and patient flow - translating clinical requirements into configured solutions in collaboration with EHR analysts.
  • Own the full clinical workflow lifecycle: current-state analysis, future-state design, build documentation, EHR ticket coordination, configuration validation, production promotion, and post-go-live optimization.
  • Lead recurring clinical workflow working sessions with hospital stakeholders across laboratory, radiology, emergency, inpatient, and ambulatory domains to iteratively build, refine, and optimize EHR-driven processes.
  • Build and configure EHR orders, order sets, charge interfaces, worksheets, favorites, and clinical documentation templates, producing structured EHR vendor build documents (order names, bill item IDs, CDM, revenue codes, pricing) for vendor promotion to production.
  • Lead ticket prioritization and escalation meetings with hospital leadership and EHR vendors, advocating for client priorities, tracking service requests, and driving resolution of complex clinical workflow issues.
  • Advise on laboratory (LIS) and radiology (RIS/PACS) information systems and their integration with the EHR, including order entry, result reporting, imaging workflow, diagnostic turnaround time, lab instrument interfaces, and PACS integrations.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors (e.g., EHR, imaging vendors, lab instrument vendors, HIE partners) on interface design, integration testing, and issue resolution, ensuring alignment on project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Lead change management and user adoption for new or optimized clinical workflows by developing training materials, conducting workflow walkthroughs, and facilitating go-live support with clinical end users.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to junior informatics staff, EHR analysts, and technical team members, elevating team capability in clinical workflow design, build best practices, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Stay current on healthcare IT trends, regulatory changes (HIPAA, Promoting Interoperability, CMS Conditions of Participation), and emerging technologies, contributing to internal knowledge bases and the organization's clinical informatics practice.
  • Document current-state and future-state workflows, build specifications, requirements, and executive-level recommendations clearly for use by technical teams, clinical stakeholders, and executive sponsors.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Clinical Sciences, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare IT, clinical informatics, hospital operations, EHR build/configuration, or a related role, with demonstrated progression of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge sufficient to credibly engage with physicians, clinical leaders, and executives in a consultative yet authoritative capacity, gained through direct hospital experience, clinical operations roles, or health informatics practice.
  • Deep, hands-on experience building and configuring EHR clinical workflows (Cerner/Oracle Health, Epic, Meditech, or comparable platform), including orders, order sets, charge interfaces, worksheets, and clinical documentation.
  • Proven track record of leading clinical workflow initiatives from discovery through build, go-live, and optimization, with measurable operational or financial outcomes.
  • Experience presenting to and engaging with hospital executives on clinical workflow strategy, project status, and recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of hospital operations, including patient flow, order management, clinical workflows, clinical documentation, revenue cycle, charge capture, and care coordination.
  • Experience leading recurring working sessions with clinical stakeholders and facilitating cross-functional decision-making across departments.
  • Experience coordinating with EHR support teams, including build document preparation, service request prioritization, and production promotion.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to translate complex clinical and technical concepts for executive, clinical, and technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of tools, with advanced expertise in Excel for build documentation, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document workflows, build specifications, and requirements clearly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment, mentoring junior team members and elevating team capability.

Preferred Skills:

  • 2+ years working with Oracle/Cerner
  • Lab and/or Radiology domain expertise - experience with LIS, RIS, PACS, lab instrument interfaces, and the clinical workflows surrounding diagnostic testing and imaging.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and IHE profiles, and experience with HIE interface monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with multiple electronic health records (EHRs) and healthcare data standards.
  • Experience in an MSP or consulting environment, leading multiple client engagements simultaneously and managing competing priorities across hospital clients.
  • Experience with revenue cycle workflows, charge interface design, CDM management, and charge capture optimization.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (HIPAA, Meaningful Use/Promoting Interoperability, CMS Conditions of Participation).
