A rapid research and development group within Analog Devices, Inc. is seeking a collaborative, self-driven Software Engineer to help develop next-generation medical technologies, diagnostic platforms, and scientific instrumentation systems.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise with experience developing software for medical devices, healthcare technologies, laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic systems, or other regulated products. This individual will work closely with biomedical engineers, scientists, hardware engineers, and clinical stakeholders to build reliable, scalable software solutions that support healthcare innovation.

The successful candidate is comfortable working in an R&D environment, solving complex multidisciplinary problems, translating experimental concepts into production-ready systems, and navigating the unique challenges of software development in regulated or quality-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software for medical devices, diagnostic systems, biomedical instrumentation, and laboratory automation platforms.

  • Collaborate with biomedical engineers, clinicians, scientists, laboratory personnel, and hardware engineers to define system requirements and translate them into robust software solutions.

  • Contribute to system architecture decisions spanning embedded systems, instrumentation, cloud platforms, and user-facing applications.

  • Execute healthcare interoperability including EMR integration, HL7, FHIR, leverage healthcare interoperability frameworks including IHE and DICOM, implementlaboratory analytical workflows.

  • Implement and optimize software for real-time control, sensor integration, data acquisition, signal processing, analytics, and monitoring applications.

  • Develop APIs, cloud services, and secure data pipelines supporting healthcare, diagnostic, and scientific workflows.

  • Develop scalable machine learning and data-processing solutions for detection, classification, analytical, or diagnostic applications.

  • Support the development of software that meets quality, reliability, and traceability expectations commonly found in regulated industries.Participate in software verification, validation, documentation, and continuous improvement activities.

Technical Requirements

Strong candidates will possess many of the following qualifications:

Software Development

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and modern software development frameworks (FastAPI,Pydantic,SQLModel,PyTorch, or similar).

  • Experience developing software for medical devices, diagnostic instruments, laboratory equipment, healthcare technologies, scientific instrumentation, or other mission-critical systems.

  • Experience developing and maintaining production software across Linux-based embedded devices, Windows, and macOS environments.

  • Strong understanding of hardware/software integration, instrument control, device communications, and sensor-driven systems.

  • Implementation of LIS/LIMS, EHR/EMR, VNA/PACS integrationswith systems like Epic Beaker, Mirth,Oracle Cerner.

Data & Cloud Technologies

  • Hands-on experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM.

  • Extensive experience withrelationaldatabases such as MySQL,ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB, including schema design, migrations, and ORM/ODM troubleshooting.

  • Experience designing and scaling cloud-based applications using AWS, Kubernetes, and modern observability/monitoring solutions.

  • Experience building distributed machine learning training and inference systems using Ray or comparable distributed computing frameworks.

  • Experience implementing secure architectures for healthcare,scientificandregulated data environments.

Software Engineering Excellence

  • Experience with GitHub CI/CD, containerization, Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, Terraform), automated testing, and deployment pipelines.

  • Demonstrated expertise in performance optimization, scalability, load testing, software distribution, and application security.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, reliability engineering, and full-stack application development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software within a regulated medical device, diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or laboratory environment.

  • Familiarity with software quality and regulatory frameworks such as:FDA medical device development processes, IEC 62304 (Medical Device Software), ISO 13485, Design Controls, Software Verification & Validation (V&V), Software as a Medical Device (SaMD)

  • Experience working with biomedical signals, medical sensors, diagnostic workflows, laboratory automation systems, imaging systems, or clinical data platforms.

  • Experience with Go, Rust, C, C++, or embedded Linux development.

  • Recent hands-on experience building and maintaining production Python systems.

  • Willingness to live in Massachusetts and work onsite as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
