Job Summary

The Intern position provides students and emerging professionals with an opportunity to gain practical experience in local government operations while applying academic knowledge in a professional work environment. Interns assist department staff with projects, administrative functions, research, customer service, and operational activities while developing skills related to their field of study and career interests.

Under the guidance of a supervisor or designated mentor, interns participate in meaningful assignments that support departmental goals and contribute to the delivery of services to Rockdale County residents and stakeholders.

Essential Functions


The following duties are representative of the position and may vary based on departmental assignment:

  • Assists with administrative, operational, technical, and project-related activities.
  • Conducts research, gathers data, and prepares reports, presentations, and correspondence.
  • Assists with organizing and maintaining records, files, and databases.
  • Provides customer service and responds to inquiries from employees, residents, vendors, or other stakeholders.
  • Supports special projects, events, meetings, and departmental initiatives.
  • Assists with data entry, document preparation, and information management.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Observes and learns governmental policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Collaborates with employees and other interns to complete assigned projects and tasks.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and complies with all County policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
