Environmental Specialist II โ€“ Water Programs & Compliance

ย Location: Atlanta, GA (GPC Headquarters)
ย Hybrid Schedule: Mondayโ€“Thursday Onsite | Friday Remote
Travel: Typically 10โ€“25% (may increase as needed)ย Contract- 18 Months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experiencedย Environmental Specialist IIย to support environmental permitting and compliance for water-related programs. This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations while minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainable practices.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of construction stormwater best management practices (BMPs), erosion and sedimentation control requirements, and regulatory permitting processes.


Key ResponsibilitiesEnvironmental Permitting & Compliance
  • Oversee environmental permitting activities for water programs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental audits and assessments.
  • Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Regulatory Knowledge & Implementation
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Federal Clean Water Act
    • Georgia Water Quality Act
    • Georgia NPDES Storm Water Discharge General Permits
    • Georgia Erosion & Sedimentation Act
  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements to construction and operational projects.
Stormwater & Erosion Control Oversight
  • Apply working knowledge of:
    • Construction Stormwater BMPs
    • Erosion and Sedimentation Controls
  • Support project teams in implementing compliant environmental controls.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Provide environmental guidance during project planning and execution.
  • Communicate compliance requirements clearly and effectively.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in:
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Engineering
    • Related field
  • 3โ€“7 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Georgia-specific environmental regulations.
  • Experience with stormwater management and erosion control requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission certification as:
    • Inspector
    • Design Professional
    • Plan Reviewer
