GIS Technician 1/2We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated GIS Technician to support the development, maintenance, and quality assurance of our geographic information systems (GIS) data. The ideal candidate will have a certificate or diploma in Geographic Information Systems or a related field and a strong interest in learning and applying GIS technology to real-world applications.Key Responsibilities:Assist with the management and maintenance of GIS databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity.Perform data entry and updates to spatial and attribute information using GIS tools.Support the creation of basic maps and spatial data visualizations for internal use and reporting.Collaborate with GIS Analysts and Engineers on data-driven projects and spatial analysis.Participate in training programs to improve proficiency in GIS software and best practices.Conduct data quality checks to ensure completeness, consistency, and correctness of spatial data.Assist in the documentation of GIS workflows, metadata, and standard operating procedures.Skill Sets & Expertise:Working knowledge of GIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent.Basic understanding of cartographic principles and map creation.Familiarity with geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML).Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.Good organizational and time-management skills.Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.Strong communication skills for working with technical and non-technical staff.Qualifications:Diploma or certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.Experience working with GIS data and software is preferred.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is an asset.
