Description

OVERVIEW:

  • Plans, directs, and evaluates a wide variety of nutritional care systems for the Food and Nutrition Services Department for Emory Hospitals.
  • Develops and manages clinical nutrition and dietetic internship budget.
  • Establishes and monitors quality measures within clinical nutrition and the dietetic internship.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary, enterprise/system-wide, hospital-wide and departmental committees.
  • Oversees development of education materials and programs for physicians, medical residents, and allied health professionals.
  • Participates in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of departmental and hospital information systems.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Chef and others regarding menu planning.
  • Generates, evaluates, and creates care plans and reports utilizing nutrition care metrics to capture revenue.
  • Manages staff and employees.
  • Determines staffing needs, interviews and hires staff.
  • Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.
  • Determines disciplinary, termination and salary actions.
  • Completes other clinical management duties as assigned.
  • Directs all aspects of the dietetic internship program to ensure maintenance of the Accreditation Council for Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) standards.
  • Assesses, plans, evaluates, and revises the program to ensure interns achieve required competencies.
  • Coordinates rotations, including creating and managing schedules in clinical nutrition, food service, community and enrichment experiences at Emory Hospitals and a variety of other facilities.
  • Establishes a Dietetic Internship Advisory Committee to determine future trends in dietetics.
  • Promotes the national recognition of the Emory University Hospital Dietetic Internship through marketing, presentations, and attendance at national, regional, and local meetings.
  • Leads student recruitment, advisement, evaluation and counseling.
  • Facilitates the implementation of contractual agreements to support intern experiences at external sites.
  • Handles all reports, communication and tasks to maintain program accreditation.
  • Reviews rotation evaluations and ensures required competencies are met by each intern to support eligibility for a Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam.
  • Responsible for the following:
    • timely submission of fees
    • reports and requests for major program changes; maintenance of the program student records, including student advising plans and verification statements; maintenance of complaints about the program received from students or others, including disposition of the complaint; on-going review of program curriculum to meet the accreditation standards; communication and coordination with program faculty
    • preceptors and others involved with the program; facilitation of processes for continuous program evaluation and student learning outcomes assessment; timely submission of required documentation supporting the graduate's eligibility for a Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam.
  • Completes other internship-related duties as assigned.
  • In addition, this position may be required to deliver nutrition care to a subset of patients consistent with the expectations of a clinical dietitian III or above.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered dietitian licensed in the state of Georgia.
  • A master's degree in Food & Nutrition, Dietetics or related area.
  • Five years of related experience of which four must be in clinical nutrition and two must be in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • One year of experience teaching/precepting dietetic interns required.
