Job description

A pharmacy intern is a student enrolled in a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Washington Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (PQAQ). The student will work under the supervision of a clinical pharmacist. Pharmacy interns are responsible for the distribution of medications, as well as to assist the pharmacist with specific clinical duties as proscribed by law. Interns work in cooperation with other health care professionals. The pharmacist intern will function in a per diem capacity with an expectation to work variable hours and shifts including weekends, as determined by the schedule and student availability during the school session.

Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Washington Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (PQAQ) is required.
  • Requires registration by Washington State Department of Health as a Pharmacy Intern.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate by telephone, text message, and email.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with staff and patients
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25 lbs., frequently), carrying, reaching, overhead reaching, pulling (up to 25 lbs., frequently)
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties assigned, similar to a Pharmacy Technician, including the ability to work with others, using calm and reasoned judgment in a stressful or emergent situation, and delivering high quality customer service with understanding and empathy. Must be able to perform tasks requiring long periods of standing (up to and beyond 3-4 hours in a single time frame), walking (up to 5 miles per shift), stooping, reaching and periodic kneeling. Fine motor skills, writing, computer use, phone, text message.
